The initiative is funded by a coalition led by Bitmine Immersion Technologies, Sharplink, Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, and other ecosystem backers, including Anchorage, Octant, and SNZ.

Ethlabs is designed to reinforce Ethereum’s core principles of credible neutrality, censorship resistance and security while helping the network scale for stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets, funds, decentralized finance and autonomous AI commerce.

The organization was co-founded by five former senior Ethereum Foundation researchers: Ansgar Dietrichs, Barnabé Monnot, Caspar Schwarz-Schilling, Josh Rudolf, and Julian Ma. Their past work spans finality, scaling, data availability, the Ethereum Virtual Machine ( EVM), and protocol economics.

The United States is moving closer to a nationwide ban on Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) after the House of Representatives passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act with overwhelming bipartisan support. The legislation, which primarily focuses on housing affordability, includes a provision that would prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing or creating a CBDC or any substantially similar digital asset until December 31, 2030.

The bill passed the House by a vote of 358-32 after previously clearing the Senate with an 85-5 vote. It now awaits President Donald Trump's signature, which is widely expected. If signed into law, the measure would mark one of the most significant policy actions against CBDCs by a major economy.

Supporters of the ban argue that a government-issued digital currency could increase financial surveillance and undermine individual privacy. Many cryptocurrency advocates have long opposed CBDCs, claiming they contradict the decentralized principles that inspired the creation of Bitcoin and other digital assets.

Notably, the legislation makes an exception for private stablecoins, allowing dollar-denominated digital currencies that are open, permissionless, and privacy-focused. The CBDC prohibition is based on provisions from the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, previously introduced by Representative Tom Emmer. While earlier efforts stalled in Congress, the language has now been incorporated into broader legislation with a significantly greater chance of becoming law.
