CFTC sues Kentucky after state’s prediction market lawsuits

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has sued Kentucky, now the ninth state the regulator is battling in its fight over prediction markets.The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed a lawsuit against Kentucky on Tuesday after the state sued prediction market operators last week, accusing them of operating unlicensed and illegal gambling platforms.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court, seeks to block Kentucky’s legal action against five prediction markets filed on Wednesday last week, calling for declaratory and injunctive relief. It names Kentucky Governor Andrew Beshear, Attorney General Russell Coleman and the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation, among others.

“Kentucky is the latest state attempting to shut down federally-regulated event contracts,” CFTC Chair Mike Selig said in a statement. “As I’ve consistently pledged, the CFTC is firmly committed to maintaining its exclusive jurisdiction over prediction markets, and today’s lawsuit against Kentucky is yet another example of the Commission protecting its federal interests.”

The CFTC has been ramping up its effort to maintain authority over prediction markets since Selig was appointed as chair in December. Kentucky is now the ninth state that the CFTC has sued over state authorities taking action against prediction markets.

Opera's MiniPay launches Visa debit card for stablecoin spendingMiniPay has launched a Visa debit card that allows users in selected markets across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Europe to make purchases using stablecoins.

According to Tuesday's announcement, the card is powered by Gnosis Pay's infrastructure, enabling users to pay directly from their MiniPay wallets while merchants receive local currency through Visa's network.

MiniPay said it has grown to more than 16 million activated wallets across 65 countries since launching in 2023, with much of its adoption concentrated in Africa and other emerging markets.

The card can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay, while eligible users in some markets will receive cashback rewards denominated in stablecoins USDt and $USDC, as well as Tether Gold.

MiniPay is a stablecoin wallet owned by Opera, the Nasdaq-listed software company best known for its web browser. Built on the Celo blockchain, the wallet focuses on payments, transfers and savings using dollar-backed stablecoins.

Stablecoins see adoption in emerging markets
The launch comes as stablecoins gain traction in emerging markets. In Latin America, a recent Bitso report found that dollar-backed stablecoins overtook Bitcoin as the most-purchased crypto asset among the exchange's users in 2025, with $USDC and USDT accounting for a combined 40% of purchases.

Adoption is also accelerating among businesses in the region. Bitso reported that stablecoin transaction volumes among its institutional clients rose 81% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, while banks and licensed payment providers accounted for more than 60% of new business customers added during the period.

A consortium of leading financial institutions has partnered with Chainlink to introduce Project Pangea, an innovative stablecoin foreign exchange settlement system connecting European and South Korean markets. The experimental platform will facilitate direct transactions between regulated digital versions of the euro and Korean won. This initiative seeks to accelerate international payment processing while reducing reliance on traditional intermediary currency channels.

Banking Consortium Tests Direct EUR-KRW Digital Asset Exchange

Project Pangea unites banking organizations from Europe and South Korea through a cooperative task force framework. The technical and institutional partnership includes FairSquareLab, UniKA, Qivalis, and Chainlink as primary contributors. Qivalis operates a euro stablecoin alliance backed by 37 financial institutions across Europe.

UniKA coordinates South Korean participation and brings together more than ten commercial banking entities. The steering body features representation from Shinhan Bank, JB Bank, Kbank, FairSquareLab and OBDIA. These participants will evaluate enterprise-grade settlement mechanisms for digital euro and won assets.

The platform will enable synchronized Payment-versus-Payment exchanges between regulated digital currencies. This approach ensures simultaneous settlement of both transaction sides, eliminating sequential

On the 17th of June, the Spot volume was at $1.738 billion but now trades at slightly above $531 million. This represents a more than 3x decrease over the same period.

Again, $LIT’s Spot volume hit a monthly low of $182 million the previous day. This is about 10x below the peak volume seen in the past week, indicating extremely low trading activity.

Combining all this data, the daily revenue has also been taking a hit, declining to $40K. Moreover, capital outflow is increasing, with about 30 trades resulting in $445.3K sell pressure.
