Altura shuts stablecoin vault after $8.5m redemption rushAltura will begin winding down its stablecoin yield vault after a sharp rise in withdrawal requests over the weekend.

CEO Ranveer Arora said the protocol processed more than 8.5 million $USDT in instant redemptions over 24 hours before deciding to close the vault in an orderly way.

Arora said the team made the move because of “sustained withdrawal demand and current market sentiment.” He added that Altura’s priority was user capital and that the team wanted all redemptions completed in a “fair, transparent, and efficient manner.” The announcement marks a sharp change for a vault built around stablecoin yield on HyperEVM.

Altura stablecoin vault positions now being unwound
Altura has notified counterparties and partners about the decision and started unwinding positions across the vault portfolio. Arora said those positions include allocations held on exchanges, private credit opportunities and real-world asset strategies.

Some positions can return capital quickly, while others need standard settlement and redemption periods. Arora said the team is working with counterparties to speed up the process where possible, and that capital will return to users as underlying positions are redeemed. He said the team will keep posting updates as more liquidity becomes available.

Synthetix Governance Votes to Retire sUSD, Pay Holders in Vested SNX



Synthetix governance has moved to retire sUSD, proposing to pay all holders back at face value in vested $SNX under SIP-423, introduced June 12. The stablecoin now trades at roughly $0.25 against its $1.00 target, per CoinGecko and DefiLlama.

Synthetix founder Kain Warwick and core contributor Benjamin Celermajer authored the proposal. Under SIP-423, the sUSD contract would be frozen and deprecated. Each eligible sUSD holder would receive four $SNX tokens per sUSD, at a conversion that values $SNX at $0.25 and sUSD at its intended $1.00 face value. The $SNX tokens carry a one-year lock followed by a one-year linear vest from the freeze date. The claim window opens approximately one year after the freeze.

Four Components

SIP-423 has four parts. First, a holder snapshot: an audit of all sUSD balances on Ethereum and Optimism at a governance-defined cutoff block. Second, the sUSD retirement itself. Third, a restructure of the existing Debt Jubilee under SIP-420, which would close the 420 Pool, remove sUSD staking ratio requirements, and give existing debt participants the choice of a four-year lock with a one-year vest, or an early exit by repaying their remaining debt in full. The fourth component, $SNX staking reform, is deferred to a separate build.

A contingent $USDT path is included: if Synthetix generates more than $10 million in protocol revenue within the two-year lock-up period, 25% of that revenue can be distributed as $USDT to legacy sUSD holders who prefer cash over $SNX. Both the $10 million threshold and the 25% share are adjustable by the Spartan Council via SCCP.

Bitcoin (BTC) is showing signs of another macro-driven breakdown as the yen carry trade risk that rattled global markets in August 2024 returns to focus.
Bitcoin fell near $62,800 on Tuesday, down approximayely 7% from its June highs as traders reacted to weakness across Asian markets and renewed concerns over the Japanese yen carry trade.

The pressure comes as USD/JPY trades near 161–162, close to levels that previously triggered heavy concern from Japanese authorities. Japan’s previous intervention, worth about 11.7 trillion yen, or roughly $72–73 billion, has largely failed to keep the yen stronger.
A sudden yen rebound can force investors to unwind yen-funded trades.

In simple terms, investors borrow cheap yen, sell it for dollars and buy higher-yielding assets, including equities, credit and other risk-sensitive assets. When the yen rises quickly, those trades become expensive to maintain, forcing traders to sell assets to raise cash and repay yen liabilities.

Bitcoin suffered from that same deleveraging pressure in August 2024.

At the time, Japan’s Nikkei had tumbled nearly 20%, the S&P 500 had fallen more than 5%, and Bitcoin had slid around 15% as the unwind of crowded trades hit global markets. Nikkei also suffered a brutal 12% one-day crash, its worst session since 1987.
