Bitcoin Price Rises Above $65,000 as ETF Outflows Slow, Iran Deal and Fed Pull in Opposite DirectionsBitcoin price climbed above $65,000 Monday morning, caught between a sixth straight week of spot ETF outflows, a hawkish Federal Reserve debut, and a U.S.-Iran peace deal that gave risk assets a short-lived lift.

The move higher came as U.S. and Iranian officials reported progress at peace talks in Switzerland, building on last week’s signed memorandum of understanding that formally ended more than 100 days of conflict.

The deal reopened the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil flows, and sent crude prices to three-month lows. The initial geopolitical relief pushed the bitcoin price to $66,230 late last week before the macro picture reasserted itself.

That reassertion came in the form of new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, whose first FOMC meeting landed as a hawkish reset. Warsh expressed a strict commitment to returning inflation to the 2% target — a stance shaped in part by May CPI coming in at 4.2%, well above target.

CME FedWatch now puts the probability of a rate hike at the July meeting at roughly 36%, with markets pricing at least one 25-basis-point increase before year-end. The U.S. dollar index recovered to the 100.6–100.8 range in the wake of the Fed’s tone, a headwind that has historically weighed heavily on the bitcoin price.

Against that backdrop, spot bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. logged a sixth consecutive week of net outflows. Funds bled $226.8 million in the week ending June 18, according to SoSoValue data, bringing the six-week total to $5.94 billion — the longest consecutive weekly outflow streak on record. U.S. spot ETFs have now shed a record $6.35 billion over the past 30 days, per Galaxy Research.

Against that backdrop, Kalshi‘s “When will Bitcoin cross $100k again?” market tells a clear story about where real-money bettors are putting their capital:

Before July 2026: Less than 1% probability (Yes contracts at 1 cent)
Before October 2026: 11% probability (Yes contracts at 11 cents, No contracts at 90 cents)
Before January 2027: 19% to 22% probability (Yes contracts near 22 cents, No contracts at 82 cents)
The market resolves early as “Yes” the moment the index crosses $100,000. If bitcoin fails to reach that level by January 1, 2027, the contract resolves “No.”

Downside Risk Is Priced In Too
The bearish positioning extends beyond the $100K timing question. Separate Kalshi contracts price a 57% chance that bitcoin drops below $50,000 before year-end. Related markets for where bitcoin ends in 2026 concentrate most probability in the $55,000 to $70,000 range, leaving little capital on significantly higher outcomes.

What’s Driving the Caution
Kalshi participants are responding to a combination of factors: spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) flow fatigue following strong 2025 inflows that have since reversed, ongoing macro uncertainty around inflation and trade policy, and the absence of a clear catalyst capable of driving a near-50% move from current levels before year-end.

According to Walter Bloomberg, the U.S. Treasury Department today issued a general license authorizing the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian crude oil, petrochemicals, and petroleum products.

Accordingly, the US issued a general license allowing trade in Iranian crude oil and petrochemical products until August 21.

It was stated that this license represents a temporary suspension of regulations related to energy transactions with Iran, and does not mean the complete lifting of sanctions.

Following the release of the license, which will last for two months, Bitcoin also surpassed $65,000. Gold and silver also saw increases along with BTC. While Bitcoin climbed above $65,000, an ounce of gold rose above $4,200 and an ounce of silver above $68. Brent oil is trading around $78.

The market views this measure as consistent with progress in US-Iran negotiations and the normalization of transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

Market analysts suggest that temporarily allowing trade in Iranian crude oil could alleviate supply instability and put downward pressure on international oil prices.

As is known, negotiations are ongoing between the US and Iran in Switzerland. As part of these constructive negotiations, Iran has committed to ensuring unimpeded freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and granting full access to its nuclear facilities to inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Secret Network's cross-chain bridge to Axelar has been suspended after an attacker exploited a years-old minting flaw to drain $4.67 million in wrapped tokens over seven undetected days.

Both teams disclosed the incident on June 19, confirming approximately $4.67 million in assets were taken from the bridge's Axelar-to-Secret IBC connection. The attack itself began on June 10 but went unnoticed for seven days until a routine cross-chain transfer failed because the bridge's escrow account had been depleted.

Minting Flaw
The vulnerability lived in a modified CW20-ICS20 smart contract deployed on Secret Network for the Axelar bridge connection. Security research firm Common Prefix published a technical breakdown of the incident, finding that two critical validation checks had been commented out from the contract's packet-receive function: one that should have verified incoming token denominations against the legitimate source channel, and one that should have capped outflows to amounts genuinely held in escrow.
