Cardano (ADA) traded largely sideways Monday as broader crypto markets showed signs of hesitation and fading momentum. 

Notably, the token slipped nearly 6% over the past week, reflecting persistent weakness across the altcoin sector despite intermittent strength in Bitcoin and a few large-cap assets.

Generally, ADA remained largely range-bound, extending its consolidation phase following recent volatility and lacking a clear directional catalyst.

However, sentiment among some market pundits remains divided. While short-term charts show weakening structure, several analysts argue that ADA could be entering a zone where historical narrative-driven rallies could re-emerge, especially if macro sentiment shifts back into risk-on territory.

The asset’s inability to recover earlier losses has kept market participants cautious, particularly as altcoins generally continue to lag behind Bitcoin’s dominance cycles. The combination of weak inflows and broader market indecision has left ADA in a consolidation phase, with traders closely watching for either a breakdown or a breakout signal.

British pound stablecoins capped to $53B ceiling as Bank of England sets out stablecoin rulesThe Bank of England has removed the biggest usability objection from its sterling stablecoin plan, but it has kept a ceiling on how large any single systemic pound token can become.

In a June 22 policy statement and draft Code of Practice, the central bank removed proposed holding limits for individuals and businesses, raised the share of backing assets that may be held in interest-bearing securities, and replaced wallet-level caps with a temporary £40 billion issuance guardrail for each systemic sterling stablecoin product.

That turns the UK debate to scaling. A token that no longer has to police ordinary business balances is more plausible as a payments infrastructure, but a successful issuer would still be rationed before it reaches the market cap of the largest dollar tokens.

The result is a different rationing model.

The UK is paving the way for regulated pound tokens to operate from 2027, while reserving the right to slow their growth until the Bank is satisfied that stablecoins will not drain deposits from the banking system quickly enough to undermine access to credit.

From wallet caps to a product ceiling
The Bank's draft rules consultation closes on Sept. 22, 2026, with the Code of Practice intended to be finalized by the end of the year. Regulated stablecoins are expected to operate in the UK from 2027.

Under the November 2025 proposal, the Bank had considered temporary per-coin holding limits of £20,000 for individuals and £10 million for businesses.

It also proposed a reserve mix that would have allowed up to 60% of backing assets to be in short-term UK government debt and required at least 40% to be in unremunerated Bank deposits.

Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas, a well-known Bitcoin advocate, has doubled down on his bullish outlook, confirming that a significant portion of his investment portfolio remains allocated to Bitcoin.

Speaking during a Thursday interview with Coindesk, Salinas clarified remarks that have circulated widely online regarding the size of his Bitcoin exposure.

“Wealth includes a lot of assets,” Salinas said. “What I said is I have 70% of my liquid portfolio, of my investment portfolio, so my financial assets, excluding my businesses, excluding my real assets like home, boats, planes, cars, whatever.”

He added that, following recent market movements, his Bitcoin allocation has increased further.

“Now I’m up to about 80% Bitcoin in this dip and 20% gold and silver miners,” he noted.
Remarkably, Salinas revealed that his journey into Bitcoin began in 2013 when the cryptocurrency traded between $200 and $400. Initially viewing it as another speculative asset, he later concluded that Bitcoin represented a fundamentally different form of money.

The billionaire credited much of his evolving perspective to studying monetary history and examining the shortcomings of fiat currencies. Over time, he became convinced that Bitcoin offered advantages that traditional stores of value could not match.

However, while he continues to hold exposure to gold and silver miners, Bitcoin remains his primary investment focus. He also dismissed the idea of rotating capital into artificial intelligence-related stocks, arguing that many AI investments appear overpriced from a value-investing perspective.

The court imposed 80 day-fines totaling about $2,700 (€2,480), plus a roughly $90 surcharge.

Kärkkäinen denied wrongdoing, arguing his streams were entertainment rather than commercial marketing, were not aimed at Finland, and that he did not control the website carrying the casino links. The court rejected that, pointing to repeated Finnish-language promotions – such as “150 free spins for just €10” – posted beside links to his site, and held that a gambling-marketing conviction does not require proof the promoter was paid or benefited; his purpose to promote the operators was enough.

The case is unusual mainly for its visibility. Finnish influencers have promoted offshore casinos for years, but enforcement has run through administrative channels – including a roughly $27,000 conditional fine the National Police Board imposed on Kärkkäinen in 2024, upheld on appeal, after which he relocated to Estonia to keep working with foreign operators.

The Veikkaus monopoly is being dismantled, with licensing opened in March 2026 and the regulated market going live on July 1, 2027. Nevertheless, marketing non-Veikkaus operators stays illegal until then. The verdict is not final, and Kärkkäinen could appeal by July 20, though he has indicated he will not do so, laughing off the penalty.

Bill creates optional tax-deferral framework
Representative Mike Carey introduced the legislation. It would establish a new framework for taxing newly minted digital assets received through mining and staking activities.

Under current IRS guidance, miners and stakers generally recognize taxable income when rewards are received. The proposed bill would preserve that treatment as the default option.

However, it would also allow taxpayers an alternative approach that defers income recognition until the assets are disposed of.

If a taxpayer makes that election, newly minted digital assets would not be included in gross income when received. Instead, gains would be recognized when the assets are sold or otherwise disposed of.

Supporters argue that the approach addresses concerns that taxpayers can face tax liabilities before they have converted rewards into cash.

Industry pushes back on current IRS treatment
