The depegging of STRC, the software-giant-turned-Bitcoin-hoarder's much-talked-about funding vehicle, STRC, has become the hottest topic within the cryptocurrency community, and Eric Balchunas, Bloomberg senior ETF analyst, now believes that the funding vehicle has to be abandoned by the company.

"I would retire it and move on. Just feels like an ongoing thorn in the side of the co and broader community. They were doing fine w out it," he said.

The acronym STRC, which used to be known only to a relatively small cohort of avid MSTR followers, has become a major flashpoint of anxiety.

STRC is Strategy's variable-rate perpetual preferred stock. It is issued with a stated face value of $100 per share. The asset, which was notably designed with the help of OpenAI's generative model ChatGPT, pays an annualized dividend rate of 11.50% that adjusts every month.

Recently, the asset reached a major breaking point, plunging to as low as $88.51, recording a discount of more than 11%.

Now, the concern is that this will create a rather dangerous feedback loop with Bitcoin itself. Ted Pillows, a prominent market commentator, has noted that Bitcoin has now found a new asset to correlate with (STRC). "Since STRC lost its peg, Bitcoin has been going down only," he said. His main reasoning is that the market expects Saylor to sell BTC to raise cash so that STRC holders can gain some confidence.

Analyst André Dragosch, PhD has noted that the broader bond market forces are working against Saylor. He has argued that either Saylor needs to raise the dividend or the Fed needs to ease monetary policy again to reverse the rise in Treasury yields, which is unlikely.

At the same time, high-conviction Bitcoin bulls believe that the STRC discount will be only a temporary liquidity crunch.

Ripple set to dump over $1 billion XRP next week 

Ripple is set to unlock 1 billion XRP from escrow around July 1, releasing tokens worth more than $1 billion at current market prices.

The scheduled release is part of Ripple’s escrow program established in 2017 to improve transparency around XRP distribution. Under the mechanism, 1 billion XRP is automatically unlocked each month from escrow accounts on the XRP Ledger.

With XRP trading just above $1.10, the upcoming Ripple escrow release carries a notional value exceeding $1 billion. 

However, historical data suggests that only a fraction of the unlocked tokens is likely to enter circulation.

Ripple XRP utilization

Following each monthly release, Ripple typically redistributes the newly unlocked XRP through a series of on-chain transactions before determining how much will be allocated to operations, liquidity management, and institutional partnerships. 

The company has consistently relocked a significant portion of the released tokens into new escrow contracts.

As a result, the increase in XRP circulating supply has generally been much smaller than the headline figure. Previous releases have seen between 200 million and 400 million XRP remain in circulation, while the majority is returned to escrow for future releases.

This practice has extended Ripple’s original escrow timeline well beyond its initial schedule, with approximately 38 billion XRP still locked in escrow as of mid-June 2026.

The upcoming XRP token unlock is unlikely to surprise the market. Because the releases occur on a predictable schedule, investors have had ample time to price in the event. 

Historically, Ripple’s monthly escrow releases have generated limited volatility compared with large one-time token unlocks seen elsewhere in the cryptocurrency market.
