Ripple targets EU, wins preliminary MiCA approval from Luxembourg financial regulatorRipple, the blockchain company behind the XRP Ledger, is on its way to regulatory approval in the European Union (EU) via licensing in Luxembourg.

The San Francisco, California-based firm received a preliminary green light for a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from the country's Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) under the EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation, Ripple said Tuesday.

A license would enable Ripple to offer its stablecoin payment systems to European companies and allow it to expand into broader crypto functions, according to the announcement.

MiCA allows companies that receive approval in one EU state to offer cryptocurrency services across the bloc.

The regime was one of the first comprehensive regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrency in a major market when it was voted into law in 2023, but there has been signs this year that the honeymoon period is coming to an end. The European Commission, the EU's executive branch, opened a consultation last month to assess if MiCA is still fit for purpose.

Among the concerns about MiCA's shortcomings is criticism over stablecoin rules, relating to a blanket ban on offering interest and reserve requirements that demand issuers hold as much as 60% of backing assets in cash deposits at commercial banks.

Bitcoin (BTC) is showing signs of another macro-driven breakdown as the yen carry trade risk that rattled global markets in August 2024 returns to focus.
Bitcoin fell near $62,800 on Tuesday, down approximayely 7% from its June highs as traders reacted to weakness across Asian markets and renewed concerns over the Japanese yen carry trade.

The pressure comes as USD/JPY trades near 161–162, close to levels that previously triggered heavy concern from Japanese authorities. Japan’s previous intervention, worth about 11.7 trillion yen, or roughly $72–73 billion, has largely failed to keep the yen stronger.
A sudden yen rebound can force investors to unwind yen-funded trades.

In simple terms, investors borrow cheap yen, sell it for dollars and buy higher-yielding assets, including equities, credit and other risk-sensitive assets. When the yen rises quickly, those trades become expensive to maintain, forcing traders to sell assets to raise cash and repay yen liabilities.

Bitcoin suffered from that same deleveraging pressure in August 2024.

At the time, Japan’s Nikkei had tumbled nearly 20%, the S&P 500 had fallen more than 5%, and Bitcoin had slid around 15% as the unwind of crowded trades hit global markets. Nikkei also suffered a brutal 12% one-day crash, its worst session since 1987.

Solana [$SOL] rebounded above the $70 mark with price up by about 2% in the past 24 hours at press time, amidst a wider market recovery. Notably, the daily trading volume was up more than 20% to around $2.20 billion.

Solana’s rally began late last week after a TD Sequential buy signal, lifting the price about 8% from $68 to $74. However, momentum now appears to be shifting on shorter timeframes.

As the price of Solana rises above $70, it encounters a heavy resistance at $75, which could be a hurdle to this recovery.

Moreover, the TD Sequential has flashed sell on the 4-hour timeframe as it tests its resistance trendline. The resistance is coinciding with the 200 SMA, showing its a strong area of supply. As such, it could suggest that $SOL is about to undergo a minor pullback to $72 or even lower levels.However, $SOL remains structurallybullish in the near-term. In fact, Solana was showing more strength than Ethereum [ETH], explaining why its Solana ETFs inflows and network activity remain strong contrary to what the charts could do.Looking at Solana Spot ETFs flows in the last week, the net inflows were more than $7.11 million. The shift from negative readings of $2.54 million to positive aligned with the price jump.

This was an indication that $SOL ETFs inflows play a part in influencing its movement as they represent capital flows into and out of the ecosystem.In addition to that, Solana network activity was accelerating each day. Its daily chain transactions have doubled since January, expanding from 60 million to 120 million.Therefore, gauging the current price outlook with the strong metrics, Solana may reset to gain strength to break past the near-term resistance.

In a note released this week, the Dutch bank pointed to differing monetary policy trajectories as a key factor that could keep EUR/USD buoyed in the near term, despite lingering headwinds from global trade uncertainties and a sluggish eurozone economy.

Policy Divergence as a Key Driver

The ECB has maintained a relatively hawkish stance compared to the Fed, which has begun signaling potential rate cuts amid easing US inflation and a softening labor market. Rabobank analysts argue that this divergence in interest rate expectations is a structural positive for the euro. While the Fed is expected to lower borrowing costs later this year, the ECB is seen holding rates steady for longer, making euro-denominated assets more attractive to yield-seeking investors.

This dynamic has already been reflected in currency markets, with the euro trading near multi-month highs against the dollar.
