The European Commission has opened a public consultation on proposed updates to the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, signaling that Brussels plans to refine how its landmark crypto rules address newer parts of the market. The consultation—initiated in May—comes as full application and enforcement of MiCA began on December 30, 2024, with the first licensing steps rolling out in the early months of 2025.

Some in the industry have already started calling the expected revision “MiCA 2.0,” with regulators aiming to tackle gaps left by the initial law. According to Katie Harries, director and head of policy for Europe at Coinbase, refinements could help keep the EU’s framework “competitive” as digital-asset regulation moves into a second phase—particularly for decentralized finance (DeFi), stablecoins, and tokenization-related activity.

Brazil’s Crypto Market Is Growing Fast
Brazil has long been one of Latin America’s most important crypto markets, but the Chainalysis figures show just how large the country’s on-chain footprint has become. The reported $318 billion in value received over the 12-month period accounts for roughly one-third of all crypto transaction value in the region.

That scale helps explain why regulators are moving quickly. A larger market brings deeper liquidity, more users and more institutional attention, but it also gives illicit finance networks more pathways to move value. Chainalysis points to increasingly complex laundering methods involving local brokers, nested services and international networks.

The report also highlights Chinese-language money laundering networks, cartel-linked flows and Russian sanctions evasion as part of a broader convergence of risks. The issue is not that crypto activity in Brazil is inherently illicit; it is that a large and liquid market can become attractive to both legitimate users and criminal intermediaries.

A recent Elliott Wave breakdown suggests the $XRP corrective phase has not yet finished. According to CoinMarketCap data, $XRP is trading at $1.14, up 2.07% over the last day. However, the broader trend remains weak. $XRP is down 17% over the past month and has lost 37.67% since the start of the year.

Elliott Wave Signals Further Weakness
Notably, the Elliott Wave analysis suggests $XRP remains trapped in a corrective structure. Based on the examination, lower prices could come before a meaningful recovery begins.

The Elliott Wave count shows $XRP breaking below a descending trendline. The current move may represent the final stage of a five-wave correction. Downside targets are based on Fibonacci retracement levels.

The first major support level sits near the 50% Fibonacci retracement at $0.9859. A move to that level would represent a decline of about 13.5% from the current price.

If selling pressure continues, $XRP could fall toward the 61.8% retracement at $0.7367. That would amount to a drop of roughly 35.4%.

The analysis also outlined a worst-case scenario near the 78.6% retracement level at $0.4865. Reaching that target would mean a decline of nearly 57.3% from current levels.
