The Bank of Japan’s policy board raised its benchmark interest rate to around 1% in a 7-1 vote, with the new guideline effective June 17. Policymakers flagged a risk of inflation rising above a 2% target as higher oil prices feed through to consumer goods, with further hikes expected.

A relief rally lifted crypto markets after President Trump announced a deal with Iran over the weekend, easing the tensions which the Bank of Japan had tied to rising oil prices. The deal moved Bitcoin above $65,000 from the low $60,000s. A signing is expected on Friday.

At time of publication, Bitcoin is trading around $66,000, down 1.1% on the day, per CoinGecko data. Traders on prediction market Myriad, owned by Decrypt’s parent company Dastan, remain predominantly bearish on its outlook, placing a 64% chance on Bitcoin’s next move taking it to $55,000Japan's economy has “recovered moderately” despite weakening factors tied to the Middle East, with strong corporate profits and a firmer job market cushioning the strain on activity, the central bank stated.

The country’s broader economy is expected to align with the “baseline scenario” for moderate growth, “albeit at a decelerated rate," the guidance reads, pointing at government measures to soften energy costs that could ease the risk of a sharp slowdown.

The millionaire tier, wallets holding over one million XRP, added 42 new addresses since January and accumulated 1.2 billion tokens in the first quarter alone, the heaviest quarterly accumulation since 2023.

Mega whale wallets holding 10 million or more XRP now control approximately 45.83 billion tokens, representing 68.5% of circulating supply and the highest whale concentration since May 2018. 

Additionally 91.4% of recent exchange outflows are coming from large holders moving coins into private custody, and over 25 million XRP was pulled off exchanges the moment price touched $19.

Valuation Methodology and Fair Value Estimate

The report, titled “A Guide to Buying the Dip: Valuing Crypto Using Cash Flows,” positions Aave as a relatively stable player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector, characterized by transparent financial operations. Grayscale’s analysts project that Aave will generate roughly $60 million in revenue this year. Using a traditional DCF model—a method more commonly applied to equities than digital assets—the firm estimates $AAVE’s fair value to be between $80 and $100. This suggests that at current trading levels, the token may be trading at a discount to its fundamental worth based on its cash flows.

Challenges and Market Context

The analysis acknowledges that Aave has not been without its recent difficulties. The protocol has faced headwinds, including the departure of some core developers and a period of deposit outflows. These factors have contributed to market uncertainty and likely weighed on the token’s price. However, Grayscale’s assessment appears to view these as temporary setbacks that do not fundamentally alter the protocol’s long-term revenue-generating potential.
