Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson used his latest livestream to argue that the roughly $292 million KelpDAO exploit was not just another bridge failure, but a broader warning about how Ethereum’s restaking, cross-chain messaging, and lending stack can turn a single compromise into system-wide contagion.

In Hoskinson’s telling, the April 18 attack exposed what he sees as the most fragile part of modern DeFi: not necessarily application-level smart contracts, but the verification layers and interdependencies that sit between protocols. He said the exploit, which involved about 116,500 rsETH drained from KelpDAO’s Ethereum escrow, should force a wider industry conversation about bridge trust assumptions, verifier design, and the speed at which bad collateral can spread through lending markets.

Rather than deliver a standard postmortem, Hoskinson said he took internal incident-report material and used AI to turn it into a website that walked viewers through the mechanics of the exploit. That structure framed his larger point: the failure, as he described it, did not begin with broken contract math inside KelpDAO itself, nor with an obvious accounting flaw at LayerZero. Instead, he said it centered on a forged cross-chain message that was accepted as legitimate and allowed funds to be released on Ethereum.

“So, this was not a smart contract issue with Kelp and this was not a smart contract issue with LayerZero, but this was a cross-chain message forgery,” Hoskinson said. “So this was something new and different.”

The Cardano founder repeatedly returned to one design choice in particular: the reported use of a one-of-one verifier configuration. In his explanation, best practice would be a multi-verifier model such as three-of-five, but KelpDAO’s setup relied on a single active DVN.

During a Senate Banking Committee hearing, Fed chair pick Kevin Warsh was mostly asked questions about interest rates, but also set the tone for how the central bank would view crypto if Warsh becomes chair.

On Tuesday, during a Senate Banking Committee hearing, Warsh was mostly asked questions about interest rates, but also set the tone for how the central bank would view crypto if Warsh becomes chair.

"Do you believe that digital assets should be incorporated into our financial industry so Americans have new investment opportunities and consumer protections?" Lummis asked Warsh. The Fed chair pick said yes.

President Donald Trump tapped Warsh to lead the central bank earlier this year after openly criticizing current Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over the past year for his handling of interest rates. Later, the Department of Justice brought a criminal investigation against Powell, alleging false statements regarding a renovation of the central bank's headquarters.

Warsh previously served on the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors from 2006 to 2011 under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and formerly worked as a banker at Morgan Stanley. Warsh had spoken a few times about crypto, calling bitcoin an "important asset that can help inform policymakers."

Bitcoin rises above $78,000, Fear & Greed Index exits 'extreme fear' zone

Bitcoin climbed above $78,000 early Wednesday morning, with roughly 2% price appreciation across the broader crypto market.

Analysts cited short squeezes and strong ETF inflows as drivers of the rally.

The crypto Fear & Greed Index has risen to 33 from 8 at the beginning of April.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major cryptocurrencies saw moderate gains early Wednesday, supported by strong exchange-traded fund inflows and easing geopolitical tensions.

According to The Block's crypto price page, bitcoin rose 2.2% in the past 24 hours to trade at $78,015 as of 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Ethereum rose 2.7% to $2,386 in the same period, and the broader crypto market was up 2.3%.

"Crypto's upside reflects a confluence of easing geopolitics, strong ETF inflows, and constructive positioning," said Zeus Research Analyst Dominick John. "As Bitcoin broke above $75K, short positions were liquidated, triggering a mechanical squeeze."

Spot bitcoin ETFs have reported three straight weeks of net inflows, drawing in around $1.8 billion worth of capital. Plus, Michael Saylor-led Strategy has recently purchased additional bitcoin, surpassing BlackRock to become the largest institutional bitcoin holder.

Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will extend the ceasefire with Iran to allow time for negotiations between the two countries, easing concerns over the approaching ceasefire expiry. However, Iran reportedly responded critically, accusing the U.S. for continuing to block Iranian ports.

Meanwhile, K33 Research said that bitcoin is likely to maintain its upward momentum, with a high possibility of more short squeeze events in the near term.

A $575 bet on a Shiba-themed token became $1.17 million in 5 days

Memecoin season keeps printing life-changing trades for people willing to take a shot.
An anonymous wallet bought 2.79 billion ASTEROID tokens for $575 on April 17 and sold the entire position for 503 ETH on Tuesday, worth roughly $1.17 million, according to on-chain tracker Lookonchain. The round trip took five days and produced a return of more than 2,000x.

ASTEROID is an Ethereum-based memecoin branded as "First Shiba In Space." It is themed after a Shiba Inu drawing by Liv Perrotto, a teenage cancer patient who died in January 2026 after a five-year battle with the disease.

Two years before her death, Perrotto sketched the dog while serving as a volunteer on SpaceX's Polaris Dawn ground support team. The design, inspired by Musk's own Shiba Inu named Floki, flew on the Polaris Dawn mission in September 2024 as the crew's zero-gravity indicator.

Before she passed, Perrotto had written down eight questions she hoped to ask Musk. The final one asked whether Asteroid could become SpaceX's official mascot. Her mother shared the list publicly after her death, and media personality Glenn Beck amplified it on April 16. The post went viral, reached Musk, and he said “ok” in response to making Asteroid the official SpaceX mascot.

That response ignited the token. ASTEROID's market cap ran from roughly $50,000 to more than $20 million within hours of Musk's reply, then pushed past $100 million over the following days on more than $100 million in 24-hour trading volume.
