For years, Bitcoin has been seen as a symbol of financial freedom and anonymity. But recent data shows a different reality — one where blockchain activity is increasingly visible and subject to global

For years, Bitcoin has been seen as a symbol of financial freedom and anonymity. But recent data shows a different reality — one where blockchain activity is increasingly visible and subject to global regulation.
According to Alex Thorn from Galaxy Research, the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has added 518 Bitcoin addresses to its SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) sanctions list over the past few years.
These aren’t inactive wallets. Collectively, the addresses have received around 249,814 BTC and sent out 239,708 BTC, leaving a current balance of about 9,306 BTC — worth roughly $707 million at today’s prices.
That number tells an important story.
First, blockchain isn’t as anonymous as many believe. With advanced tracking tools, authorities can trace transactions, identify patterns, and link wallets to sanctioned entities or illicit activities. Once flagged, these addresses become effectively “untouchable” within the regulated financial system.
Second, it highlights how Bitcoin is evolving. What started as a decentralized alternative to traditional finance is now increasingly integrated into regulatory frameworks. Governments aren’t ignoring crypto anymore — they’re actively shaping how it operates.
Being on the SDN list doesn’t erase the funds, but it severely limits their usability. Most exchanges, institutions, and compliant platforms avoid interacting with these wallets entirely, making those assets difficult to move or liquidate.
In simple terms: the Bitcoin is still there — but it’s largely locked out of the mainstream ecosystem.

Validator Distribution Strength Puts Ethereum On Top

The Ethereum network has emerged with another reason why it is considered the leading blockchain across the entire cryptocurrency sector. After a wave of demand, a significant milestone has now been reached in the evolution of Ethereum, putting the network in the spotlight once again.

In a report on the social media platform X, Everstake, a leader in global non-custodial staking infrastructure provider, revealed that the ETH network has emerged as the top blockchain in validator distribution. With validation authority distributed more fairly across participants rather than being concentrated among a few entities, this development highlights an increasing degree of decentralization.

As seen in the chart shared by Everstake, the total number of validators on the network is approximately 921,500. The ETH network is exceptionally leading in this context, with Cardano, which comes in the second position, recording a total of just 2,900 validators.

This level of validators enables the ETH network to operate at a scale that clearly sets it apart from the rest of the market.
