According to Market Analyst Samson Mow, Strategy Selling Bitcoin Isn’t a Bad Thing—Here’s Why

Samson Mow made noteworthy statements regarding Strategy’s remarks that it could sell Bitcoin if necessary.

Mow argued that it was “not a bad thing” for a Bitcoin treasury company to sell $BTC when circumstances required it, saying the main goal should be to protect shareholders and provide flexibility to the company.

According to Mow, the “never sell Bitcoin” approach restricts companies’ room for maneuver. Describing public markets as a “battlefield,” Mow stated that a company sticking to only one strategy can create an advantage for short-positioning investors and arbitrageurs. He argued that Strategy’s ability to utilize different tools such as selling, hedging, or issuing new shares when necessary makes the company more resilient to market attacks.

Mow also recalled that his previously designed Bitcoin bond model included planned $BTC sales. He explained that after a five-year lock-in period, the issuer would sell $BTC, providing investors with a return on capital. Mow stated that Strategy’s STRC structure follows a similar logic, adding that both models reduce Bitcoin volatility while offering investors upside potential.

Prediction markets closed out Consensus Miami 2026 on Thursday as the subject of the conference’s final debate, pitting the CFTC’s position that event contracts are swaps against a growing coalition of state attorneys general who argue the platforms are unlicensed gambling businesses.

The session brought the conference’s policy agenda to a head after three days of regulatory and legislative sessions.

CFTC Chairman Michael Selig, who attended Consensus for the first time this year, has made the prediction markets jurisdictional fight a defining feature of his tenure.

“We expect these matters to go up to the Supreme Court,” Selig said, as the agency has already sued Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, New York, and Wisconsin for attempting to regulate CFTC-registered exchanges under state gambling law.

Why states are pushing back

The core disagreement is structural. Kalshi and Polymarket argue their platforms operate like futures markets, with no house setting odds and no counterparty absorbing all risk.

DraftKings president Paul Liberman acknowledged the consumer experience is identical to sports betting. “For the end user, yes,” he said, “whether they’re putting a bet on the sportsbook or whether they’re doing a trade on the Celtics here, they definitely feel as though it’s the same.”

Wisconsin filed complaints against Kalshi, Polymarket, Coinbase, and Robinhood in April, arguing their contracts meet the state’s legal definition of a bet.

A bipartisan coalition of 41 state attorneys general has separately called for federal clarity on jurisdiction. Senator Marsha Blackburn’s subcommittee has scheduled a hearing for May 20, sitting directly between the Consensus debate and the Senate’s CLAR

The Bank of England is showing signs that it may ease parts of its proposed stablecoin framework after strong criticism from crypto companies, legal experts, and digital asset advocates who argue that some of the rules could make sterling-backed stablecoins commercially unattractive and drive innovation outside the UK.

At the center of the debate is how Britain should regulate stablecoins that could eventually become widely used for payments and settlements. While the Bank says the framework is designed to protect financial stability and consumer trust, critics warn that the UK risks falling behind the United States and the European Union as those jurisdictions move faster to establish workable digital asset regimes.

Bank of England says it is willing to adjust proposals

The Bank of England launched its consultation on systemic sterling stablecoins in November, setting out rules for issuers whose tokens could become large enough to pose broader financial stability risks.

Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden later told lawmakers that the central bank remained open to revisiting aspects of the framework after receiving industry feedback.

“Today’s proposals mark a pivotal step towards implementing the UK’s stablecoin regime next year,” Breeden said in the Bank’s consultation announcement. “Our objective remains to support innovation and build trust in this emerging form of money.”

She added: “We’ve listened carefully to feedback and amended our proposals for achieving this, including on how stablecoin issuers interact with the Bank of England.”

The bottom line was uglier. IREN reported a net loss of $247.8 million, compared with a $155.4 million loss in Q2 FY26. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $59.5 million from $75.3 million. Costs also came down by $25.9 million, mainly because reduced mining activity lowered power use.

The quarter carried $140.4 million in non-cash impairments, mostly from retired mining hardware, and $23.7 million in unrealized losses tied to capped calls linked to convertible notes.IREN signed a five-year, $3.4 billion AI Cloud contract with NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) covering air-cooled Blackwell GPUs. The company plans to place that hardware inside 60MW of existing data center space at Childress, with customer ramp-up expected from early 2027.

Daniel Roberts, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of IREN, said, “The world is structurally short compute, and the bottleneck is delivered data center and GPU capacity.” After that, Daniel said the quarter included work across power, land, data center construction, and large-scale compute delivery.

The company also entered a wider 5GW partnership with NVIDIA. That agreement covers data center designs and infrastructure built around NVIDIA systems across IREN’s global power base. IREN also gave NVIDIA a five-year right to buy up to 30 million ordinary shares at $70 each, which could bring in up to $2.1 billion if all conditions are met, including regulatory approvals.
