Sequans sells 1,025 bitcoin to fund debt redemption and buybacks as revenue drops 24.8% Sequans said it sold 1,025 bitcoin, reducing holdings from 2,139 BTC to 1,114 BTC as of April 30.

The company linked bitcoin sales to convertible debt redemptions and ADS buybacks, while reporting revenue of $6.1 million, down 24.8% year-on-year.

Paris-based Sequans Communications trimmed its bitcoin (BTC) holdings by nearly half during the first quarter, selling 1,025 BTC to finance convertible debt redemptions and an ADS buyback program.

The transaction reduced the firm's total digital asset reserves from 2,139 BTC at the end of 2025 to 1,114 BTC by the close of April, it said in a statement on Tuesday. Of the remaining bitcoin position, 817 BTC, representing over 70% of its current holdings, is pledged as collateral for $35.9 million in outstanding convertible notes.

According to market monitors citing Arkham’s AI attribution engine, an address predicted to be associated with Multicoin Capital transferred approximately $28.45 million worth of $HYPE to the HyperCore staking contract and locked it, marking a fresh wave of on-chain positioning in the Hyperliquid ecosystem.

At roughly the same time, two other addresses performed the same operation, and together the three wallets staked 1.96 million $HYPE tokens, valued at about $82.02 million at prevailing prices, based on figures reported by Coinness and Phemex.

The recent $280 million Drift incident has demonstrated a shift toward more sophisticated social engineering tactics.

Ripple is sharing its intelligence on North Korea-linked threat actors with the broader crypto sector, as recent attacks have showcased a shift toward more sophisticated social engineering tactics.

Crypto ISAC, a non-profit focused on tackling crypto security challenges, announced Tuesday that Ripple is contributing its internal data, including fraud-associated domains, wallet addresses, and indicators of compromise tied to North Korean hacking campaigns.

The move follows the recent $280 million Drift incident, which Crypto ISAC said has served as a "wakeup call for the industry," as the attack didn't start with a smart contract exploit or a bug. Instead, it began by gaining the trust of Drift contributors and ultimately compromising their devices.

"Companies in both crypto-native and traditional financial institutions are seeing more of this type of sophisticated operation, linked to North Korean threat actors who are working from the inside out," Christina Spring, director of growth at Crypto ISAC, wrote. 

"This is a social engineering campaign on a new level," said Spring.

Ripple also said on X that a threat actor who fails a background check at one company could quickly target others. "Without shared intelligence, every company starts from zero," the firm said, adding that shared intelligence now allows the industry to "act on threats in real-time."

Paris-based Sequans Communications sold 1,025 bitcoin during the first quarter of 2026, cutting its digital asset reserves nearly in half as the IoT semiconductor maker grappled with declining revenue and mounting losses tied to a treasury strategy that has turned from ambitious to burdensome.

The sale reduced Sequans’ bitcoin position from 2,139 BTC at year-end 2025 to 1,114 BTC by April 30, marking the second major disposal in six months for a company that less than a year ago proclaimed plans to accumulate 3,000 bitcoin as a “long-term store of value”.

The financial pressure is evident in the numbers. Sequans reported revenue of $6.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, down 24.8% from $8.1 million a year earlier. The year-over-year comparison reveals the company’s vulnerability: the prior-year period included significant license and services revenue from Qualcomm that did not recur, exposing the underlying weakness in product sales.

While product sales did increase 45% from the year-ago quarter, gross margin compressed to 37.7% from 64.5% as lower-margin hardware displaced the lucrative licensing income. For a company burning cash, the shift in revenue mix compounds the challenge.
