Spot Silver (XAGUSD) is under heavy pressure Friday, but not necessarily in a weak position according to the daily charts. The selling started late Thursday, but the acceleration began early Friday when sellers drove it under the long-term 50% level at $83.61. The break was hard and fast because there was no support between the 50% level and the 50-day moving average at $76.99.

Bitcoin fell to $78,600 on May 15 as bond yields surged to a 12 month high, rattling risk markets.
The US 10-year Treasury yield surged to 4.54% on May 15, its highest point since May 2025, after hotter than expected CPI and PPI data stoked fears of a Federal Reserve rate hike. The 30-year yield crossed 5% while the 2-year broke above 4%.
Inflation and yields hit crypto and equities
Bitcoin fell as low as $78,600, down roughly 4% from Thursday’s $82,000 high, before stabilising slightly above $79,000. The selloff spread to equities, with the Nasdaq 100 opening 1.7% lower and the S&P 500 falling 1.2%.

“The 10Y Note Yield is now above 4.50% for the first time since June 2025,” the Kobeissi Letter noted on X. “Rate hikes are now the base case for the Fed’s expected next move.”

Crypto-linked equities were hit harder. Coinbase dropped nearly 6%, Circle fell 7.4% and Strategy slid 5.4%. Bitcoin miners MARA Holdings and Hut 8 each lost around 7%, while Cipher Mining fell nearly 9%.

CME FedWatch showed more than 44% probability of a Fed rate hike by December, a sharp reversal from expectations of multiple rate cuts at the start of 2026. Gold fell 2.5% while oil rose 3%, crossing $100 per barrel as energy inflation compounded yield pressure.
April CPI came in at 3.8% while PPI matched 2022 levels at 6%, according to official data. Futures traders who began 2026 pricing two or more Fed cuts now expect rates to stay elevated through at least the first half of 2027.
Bitcoin remains below its 200-day moving average heading into the weekend, caught between a regulatory tailwind from the Clarity Act’s Senate progress and a macro headwind from rising yields and accelerating inflation.

Investors are piling into leveraged ETFs at a record pace, turning the Bitcoin risk-on boom into a test of whether speculative demand can survive hotter inflation and fading expectations of Fed rate cuts.

Bitcoin trades near $81,000 as of May 15, close enough to the $86,900 resistance ceiling to make a breakout plausible and to the $76,900 support floor to make a rejection consequential, according to a report by Glassnode.

US-leveraged ETF assets under management reportedly reached $177 billion, up $45 billion from the March market bottom.

Analysts say $77,000 is the key support level; a break below, with open interest still elevated, could trigger a deleveraging phase.

Bitcoin is struggling to hold above $80,000 as institutional investors exit ETFs amid rising Treasury yields, even as the CLARITY Act passed the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday

The leading crypto is up 0.8% over the past 24 hours and is trading at around $80,350, according to CoinGecko data, after multiple failed attempts to overcome the $82,000 hurdle—a resistance zone that encompasses the ETF cost basis, 200-day moving average, and the now-filled CME gap.

The 7D-SMA of U.S. Spot ETF netflow dropped to -$88M/day, the largest outflow since mid-February, Glassnode said in a Telegram post Thursday. “This wave is selling into strength," Glassnode analysts wrote, adding that, "Institutional participants were using the recovery over the recent days as an exit, not responding to fear.”

So, what gives?

The institutional exit comes as the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield climbed to 4.52% on Friday, its highest in roughly 10 months. The U.S. CPI for April rose 3.8% year-over-year—the highest in three years—pushing back market expectations of a Fed rate cut, analysts said.

China has cemented its leadership in the quantum computing world with Jiuzhang 4.0, the latest iteration of the nation’s take on quantum computing that leverages photons to make advanced calculations.

According to Nature, Jiuzhang 4.0 achieved a breakthrough in the sector, increasing the number of photons manipulated to 3,050, up from the 255 mark achieved with Jiuzhang 3.0 in 2023.

While the development of photonic quantum computers has been hampered by photon loss, the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) developed a special optical light source and an interferometer that allowed the system to increase its source efficiency to 92% and its overall efficiency to 51%.

Lu Chaoyang, a professor at the USTC, stated that “the most complex data sample generated by ‘Jiuzhang 4.0’ takes only 25 microseconds to produce – shorter than the blink of an eye.” This shows a remarkable improvement compared to the most powerful computer in the world, which would take “more than 10 to the 42nd years to calculate the same result,” said Lu.
