ETH/BTC ratio falls to 10-month low as ether continues to underperform bitcoinOne widely watched indicator for assessing whether the crypto market is in a bullish or bearish phase is the ether-to-bitcoin ($ETH/$BTC) ratio.

On Tuesday, the ratio fell to 0.02835, its lowest level in 10 months and the weakest reading since July 2025. The decline comes as ether dropped more than 2% on Tuesday, compared with bitcoin’s decline of just over 1%. The $ETH/$BTC ratio is now down more than 35% from its August high of 0.04324.

The $ETH/$BTC ratio measures ether’s relative performance against bitcoin across crypto exchanges and is considered a key gauge of market risk appetite. A rising ratio typically signals that investors are rotating capital into ether and other higher risk crypto assets, reflecting stronger risk sentiment. Conversely, a falling ratio suggests investors are favoring bitcoin’s relative stability and defensive characteristics.

The pair peaked above 0.08 in December 2021 before entering a prolonged multi year downtrend. Much of the weakness through 2024 and into 2025 was driven by bitcoin’s outperformance following the launch and success of U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, which attracted significant institutional inflows.

The ratio eventually bottomed at 0.01770 in April 2025 during the market turmoil surrounding President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariff announcements. It then rebounded sharply, gaining roughly 135% later in 2025 before reversing course again. Despite that recovery, the ratio has since fallen another 35% from its recent highs.

Technically, the $ETH/$BTC ratio remains substantially below its 200 week moving average, currently at 0.04828, reinforcing the view that ether remains in a long term bear market relative to bitcoin.

The Clarity Act, one of the most important legislative bills regarding cryptocurrency regulation in the US, is nearing its conclusion.

At this point, Clarity, also known as the Transparency Act, is scheduled to be discussed and voted on by the Senate Banking Committee on May 14.

There has been a new development regarding the CLARITY law, which the cryptocurrency sector has been eagerly awaiting.

Crypto in America host Eleanor Terrett X announced on her social media account that the US Senate Banking Committee has released a new 309-page draft of the CLARITY Act, which has been in preparation since January.

Committee members must submit their proposed amendments by the end of business on May 13th, before the meeting scheduled for May 14th.

The draft largely reflects a version previously shared with the industry, but retains a controversial provision regarding stablecoin yield and interest structure. It also includes legal protections for decentralized finance (DeFi) developers, reflecting a significant industry demand.

However, the latest draft bill does not include a provision restricting conflicts of interest related to cryptocurrency for public officials. Democrats say they will struggle to support the bill without such a provision, while the White House opposes rules that target specific individuals.

The Banking Committee had initially scheduled a meeting in January, but canceled it at the last minute after major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase withdrew its support due to concerns, including how stablecoin rewards were handled. This issue was resolved earlier this month when key Democratic negotiators, Senators Angela Alsobrooks (Maryland) and Thom Tillis (California),

US authorities have charged three men in connection with a violent crypto robbery spree that allegedly targeted cryptocurrency holders across California. According to federal prosecutors, the suspects posed as delivery drivers to gain access to victims’ homes before threatening them and demanding access to their crypto wallets.

The accused individuals, identified as Elijah Armstrong, Nino Chindavanh, and Jayden Rucker, allegedly carried out multiple attacks between November and December 2025 in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. Prosecutors say the group used intimidation, violence, and psychological pressure to force victims into revealing seed phrases and transferring digital assets.

One victim was reportedly forced to send approximately $6.5 million worth of cryptocurrency to wallets controlled by the attackers. Authorities described the operation as highly organized, violent, and sophisticated.

The case highlights the growing global trend of so-called “wrench attacks,” where criminals physically threaten crypto holders rather than attempting traditional online hacks. Since 2025, these attacks have increased worldwide as criminals increasingly target individuals believed to hold significant digital assets.

US prosecutors stated that the suspects specifically selected victims they believed owned large amounts of cryptocurrency. The attacks allegedly involved forced home entry, threats of serious violence, and attempts to rapidly move stolen crypto through controlled wallets.

Law enforcement agencies continue warning crypto investors about the risks of publicly displaying wealth online or sharing information about digital asset holdings. Security experts recommend using multi-signature wallets, keeping seed phrases offline, and avoiding unnecessary exposure of personal financial information.

Tether increased its stablecoin supply again after minting $1 billion $USDT on the Tron network. The latest issuance pushed the company’s total new $USDT creation to $6 billion within three weeks. Blockchain tracking platform Onchain Lens reported the latest mint on May 11.

The move arrived as crypto trading activity accelerated across major exchanges and Bitcoin maintained strong momentum. Market analysts continue to watch large $USDT mints closely because they often signal rising liquidity demand. Besides, traders usually interpret fresh stablecoin supply as preparation for larger institutional positioning across digital asset markets.

During the same three-week period, the company also burned $2 billion $USDT on Ethereum. Consequently, the latest activity reflected a broader treasury management strategy rather than uncontrolled supply expansion.

Rising Liquidity Signals Stronger Market Activity

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino described the mint as an inventory replenishment. The newly created tokens currently remain authorized but unissued. Therefore, the treasury holds them in reserve for future demand, chain swaps, and exchange liquidity needs.

However, historical market behavior often connects large $USDT mints with increased crypto volatility. Investors frequently view expanding stablecoin reserves as a sign that traders plan to deploy fresh capital into Bitcoin and altcoins. Additionally, large exchanges rely on stablecoin liquidity to support heavy trading volumes during volatile market conditions.

The Tron network has also become a preferred settlement layer for $USDT transfers because of its lower transaction costs and faster processing speeds. Hence, Tether continues to expand supply on Tron alongside Ethereum to maintain balanced liquidity across networks.
