Yet, as things stand, tokenized commodities are dominated by gold-backed tokens. The increased demand for gold was a result of rising geopolitical and monetary uncertainty.

The total Q1 demand for gold, including OTC, was up 2% year-on-year. Combined with the massive price rise, the value of the quarterly demand for gold saw a 74% jump to a record high of $193 billion.

Tether Gold saw a 36% increase in underlying gold reserves quarter on quarter, and the report highlighted that the scale and speed of inflows reflected a structural shift and was not explained just by investors seeing gold as an uncertainty hedge.

There are 707,747.09 XAU₮ tokens in circulation. Each token is 1:1 physically backed by one fine troy ounce (roughly 31.103 grams) of gold. XAU₮ has a total market value of $3.303 billion, and there are 148,145.45 XAU₮ tokens available for sale.

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, said,

Tether Gold is proving that tokenized commodities can operate with the same seriousness, scale, and reserve discipline expected from major institutional holdings. It allows people and institutions to hold direct exposure to physical gold while benefiting from the transparency, portability, and accessibility of blockchain-based assets.

The strict 1:1 backing, regulated issuance, and Swiss-vaulted reserves gave Tether Gold the transparency and investor trust needed to keep it at the forefront of the tokenized real-world asset market.

Gold, which generally has a passive role as a store of value in investor portfolios, has transformed into a more active, collateralized financial instrument.

The tokenized commodities market has grown to $7 billion, up nearly 600% from the start of 2025. Jesse Knutson, Head of Operations, Bitfinex Securities, wrote that the rising tokenized commodities adoption isn’t just about new demand.

It is helping morph commodities into mobile, flexible assets that enable “responsive risk management” in the increasingly volatile geopolitical climate, he wrote in mid-April.

Tether Gold [XAU₮] accounts for nearly 40% of the tokenized gold market. The tokenized commodity adoption is greater among assets that investors trust more, such as gold.

Defend American Jobs, the cryptocurrency-backed political action committee (PAC) affiliated with Fairshake, reported spending more than $500,000 on media to support a Republican incumbent representative in Indiana.

According to a Saturday filing with the US Federal Election Commission (FEC), the Defend American Jobs PAC spent about $514,000 on media in support of James Baird, a Republican House member running for reelection in Indiana's 4th Congressional District. The spending was the latest in Fairshake’s spending on the 2026 US elections ahead of today's Indiana primary elections.

Bitcoin Rose 12% in April. But Could These 2 Catalysts Push It Up Again Soon?

Bitcoin gained roughly 12% in April, its best month in a year. So far, May has extended these gains, pushing the leading crypto beyond $80,000. And yet, almost nobody trusts the rally.

The move did not come from a rush of new buyers. It came from mechanics: Strategy added more than $3.8 billion in BTC during April, institutions ran basis trades through BlackRock’s IBIT, and short liquidations outpaced longs by nearly a billion dollars since mid-April, per CoinGlass.

Perpetual funding rates for bitcoin, an indicator of sentiment, have been negative for over 46 consecutive days, the longest bearish positioning streak in years. The market rallied into a wall of shorts and kept climbing.

But here is what is missing: spot demand. 

CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju has warned that apparent onchain demand remains net negative even as ETFs absorb supply. Nine consecutive days of Bitcoin ETF inflows through April 24 totaled $2.1 billion, the longest streak since September 2025.

However, much of the ETF flow reflects cash-and-carry trades, not conviction. Also, onchain analytics suggest the ETF bid served as exit liquidity for short-term holders rather than genuine accumulation amid an unresolved war with Iran in the background.

All this means that spot demand hasn’t arrived yet, despite the 12% rise. And the market is sitting on a pile of short fuel with a few potential positive catalysts that could arrive in the same window.

CryptoCache said $35.6 million in spot limit orders was wiped out at $80,000. That means price moved into a large liquidity area and cleared resting orders around that level.

The chart also shows several large red sell zones above and near price, including notable whale order levels around $81,000, $82,000, $84,000, $85,000, $86,500, $90,000, and higher.

The analyst expects downside after the move, saying the last shorts from the past seven days were fully liquidated. In simple terms, the upside move may have cleared short-side liquidity, leaving less fuel for an immediate continuation.

If $BTC fails to hold above $80,000, price could return toward the nearby support area around $79,200 to $79,600. A deeper pullback could bring the $78,400 range back into focus.
