Paris-based Sequans Communications sold 1,025 bitcoin during the first quarter of 2026, cutting its digital asset reserves nearly in half as the IoT semiconductor maker grappled with declining revenue and mounting losses tied to a treasury strategy that has turned from ambitious to burdensome.

The sale reduced Sequans’ bitcoin position from 2,139 $BTC at year-end 2025 to 1,114 $BTC by April 30, marking the second major disposal in six months for a company that less than a year ago proclaimed plans to accumulate 3,000 bitcoin as a “long-term store of value”.

The financial pressure is evident in the numbers. Sequans reported revenue of $6.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, down 24.8% from $8.1 million a year earlier. The year-over-year comparison reveals the company’s vulnerability: the prior-year period included significant license and services revenue from Qualcomm that did not recur, exposing the underlying weakness in product sales.

Bitcoin Price Forecast: CEO Charts Path to $92,000
On Monday, Bitcoin again surpassed $81,000, reclaiming a level it hadn't reached in four months and continuing a recovery that has added nearly $500 billion to the total cryptocurrency market capitalization since the start of the US-Iran war.

This move was accompanied by short liquidation, as bearish traders found themselves at a disadvantage when the price broke the psychological barrier of $80,000. The forced short-covering accelerated the rally, fueling a move that was already based on improving macroeconomic sentiment.
Avinash Shekhar, co-founder and CEO of crypto derivatives platform Pi42, told Coinpedia that the $80,000 level is now the line separating a confirmed breakout from continued sideways movement.

 "Bitcoin is trading above $80,000, testing key psychological resistance after recently breaking above it for the first time in three months," Shekhar said. "The upside was supported by strong momentum and sharp liquidation of bearish positions, reflecting aggressive short-covering as the price rises."

The technical picture, he said, is positive but not yet confirmed. A sustained close above $80,000 would open the door to $85,000-$92,000 in the near term. Failure to hold this level will likely lead to Bitcoin returning to consolidation as traders hedge positions and wait for a clearer directional signal.

Bitcoin ETFs pull in $532M as BTC reclaims $80K amid ‘post-ceasefire recoveryUS spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $532.21 million in net inflows on Monday as Bitcoin pushed back above the $80,000 mark amid improving risk sentiment following the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran.

Morgan Stanley’s Bitcoin ETF (MSBT) was the only other fund to post positive flows on the day, adding $12.16 million. The remaining funds recorded no new inflows.

Monday’s inflows extended a three-day winning streak. On Friday, the funds pulled in $629.73 million, while Thursday saw a modest $14.76 million. The streak came after three consecutive days of outflows in which funds shed $490.63 million, the heaviest sustained redemption period in recent weeks.
