A federal judge in Honolulu has dismissed a Trump administration lawsuit that sought to prevent Hawaii from pursuing climate change litigation against major fossil fuel companies in state court. U.S. District Judge Helen Gillmor cited a longstanding legal principle against federal interference in state judicial proceedings as the basis for her ruling.This decision marks the second federal court rebuke in 2026 of the Justice Department's strategy to suppress state-level climate lawsuits. Earlier in January, a separate federal judge rejected a similar DOJ attempt to block Michigan from filing its own climate suit against leading oil companies.The Justice Department originally filed lawsuits against both Hawaii and Michigan in April 2025, arguing that allowing these states to sue major energy producers would threaten domestic energy output. Just one day after that federal action, Hawaii moved forward anyway, filing suit against fossil fuel giants including BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Shell. The state alleged these corporations knowingly sold products that contributed to global warming despite being aware of the environmental consequences.Judge Gillmor determined that the Justice Department failed to establish legal standing to bring the case. In her written opinion, she noted that the DOJ's attempt to forecast the outcome of a lawsuit that had not yet been fully litigated — and speculate on how it might harm the federal government — did not constitute a concrete, legally recognized injury. Without that threshold requirement met, the case could not move forward.Neither the Justice Department nor Hawaii's Attorney General office released public statements following the ruling. Bybit Card surpasses 3 million 

Bybit, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has announced that its Bybit Card has reached 3 million users globally, according to information shared with Finbold on Thursday, April 16.

Bybit said the card expanded from zero to 1 million users in under two years, reached 2 million within the following six months, and surpassed 3 million approximately nine months later. Usage spans categories such as travel, groceries, dining, and retail.

At launch, the Bybit Card enabled global crypto and fiat payments at online and offline merchants.

It is available as both a virtual and physical card, supports mobile payment services including Apple Pay and Google Pay, and does not charge issuance or annual fees, although features vary depending on the approved card program.

Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has made headlines for acquiring 951 BTC worth $70.4 million on the 15th of April.

As reported by Arkham Intelligence, the stablecoin issuer had moved those 951 BTC from the Bitfinex wallet. This has brought the total Bitcoin holdings ​​to 97,141 BTC worth $7.22 billion.

Ripple has struck a new partnership with Kyobo Life Insurance to explore what it says would be Korea’s first tokenized government bond settlement workflow on blockchain, extending the company’s institutional push in Asia into the country’s insurance sector.

The partnership is built around Ripple Custody, which will be used to hold, transfer, and settle tokenized government bond transactions within a regulated institutional framework. The firm said the setup is designed to replace fragmented, manual settlement processes with on-chain execution, potentially compressing the standard two-day settlement cycle into near real-time.

Ripple Signs First Tier-1 Korean Insurer for Custody Push
Kyobo, one of Korea’s largest and most established life insurers, will work with Ripple to assess both the technical and regulatory feasibility of tokenized Treasury settlement within Korea’s financial system. The custody layer sits at the center of that effort. Ripple described Ripple Custody as a bank-grade, fully integrated platform built for regulated financial institutions, supporting the secure transfer, settlement, and management of digital assets.

Notably, the announcement positions custody not as a standalone product, but as the first layer of a broader institutional stack that could later expand into tokenization, payments, liquidity, and treasury management. In other words, the bond-settlement pilot is being presented as infrastructure, not a one-off proof of concept.

Ripple also tied the partnership to a larger modernization argument around government bond markets. By settling transactions simultaneously on-chain, the companies say institutions could reduce counterparty risk and improve capital efficiency. Ripple added that it will also support Kyobo in exploring stablecoin-based payment rails, with the goal of enabling 24/7 transaction capabili
