Prediction market platform Kalshi has filed a federal lawsuit to block a first-in-the-nation Minnesota law that would make operating or advertising prediction markets a felony, escalating a nationwide fight over who regulates the fast-growing sector.

Kalshi, a federally regulated prediction market where users trade contracts on the outcome of real-world events, asked a federal court to strike down Minnesota’s SF4760, a law it says would criminalize its business in the state. Governor Tim Walz signed the measure on May 18, and it is set to take effect on August 1, 2026, making Minnesota the first U.S. state to treat the operation and advertising of prediction markets as a felony.

The lawsuit, filed on May 28, argues the ban cannot stand because prediction markets are not gambling products but federally regulated derivatives. Kalshi contends that Minnesota is attempting to outlaw an activity that Congress placed under exclusive federal oversight.

At the heart of Kalshi’s case is the claim that the state law intrudes on the authority of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the federal agency that regulates derivatives markets. Kalshi argues that its event contracts qualify as swaps under the Commodity Exchange Act, the federal statute that grants the CFTC exclusive jurisdiction over such instruments, and that a state cannot override that framework by reclassifying them as gambling.

‘Getting closer to gold’ - Will Bitcoin’s volatility shift catch Wall Street’s attention?

Bitcoin’s volatility or price swings have eased and it is now closing in on gold.

In the past, most criticism from investment advisors against BTC as a hedge or an alternative to gold has been that it’s too volatile to be included in clients’ portfolios. 

The tightening gap in volatility, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, could be a “good sign.” 

Bitcoin’s volatility and correlation is getting closer and closer to gold’s, which is underreported and perhaps one positive from this rough patch.

The 60-day volatility index has dropped from over 60 to around 35 for BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). Similarly, the gold ETF’s volatility dipped from 43 to around 25. 

Citing insights from high-level ETF leaders, Balchunas added, 

The big boy money out there (institutions, advisors) is not interested in tech stock returns from BTC (they can get that in QQQ et al), they want gold-like returns, a true alternative asset because diversification is only free lunch.

According to him, the “true alternative asset” status can only be achieved if both assets have similar volatility. It remains to be seen if BTC and gold will eventually close the volatility gap.

Khanna signals that the XRPL version 3.1.3 upgrade is the beginning, adding that there is still a lot more work ahead.

The XRPL 3.1.3 version included bug fixes and improvements to one amendment, "fixCleanup3_1_3", a collection of fixes for NFTs, Permissioned Domains, Vaults, and the Lending Protocol.

Back in March, Ripple revealed the launch of a dedicated AI-assisted red team to continuously hunt for vulnerabilities in the $XRP Ledger. Two months later, the team led by Ripple software engineer Mayukha Vadari shares a progress report on how the effort is structured, the kinds of bugs found, and lessons learned along the way.

The red team combines several complementary techniques with the aim of catching different classes of bugs.

To date, the team has publicly disclosed 287 xrpld issues on GitHub (231 open, 49 closed), with more issues regularly created as triage continues. These issues are mainly code-quality improvements and defense-in-depth enhancements with none affecting system stability, availability, or the safety of funds.
