The company unveiled the model on Thursday, framing it as a steady build on Opus 4.7 rather than a reinvention, with most benchmark scores creeping up only slightly On the SWE-Bench Pro coding test, it scored 69.2%, up from 64.3% for the prior version and ahead of OpenAl's GPT-5.5, which managed 58.6%.
Honesty drew the spotlight. Anthropic says
Al models often jump to conclusions, claiming progress on thin evidence, and that early testers found 4.8 quicker to admit doubt during long, unattended tasks. Its tests indicated the model is about four times less likely than 4.7 to let coding flaws slip past unremarked.
The upgrade shipped with fresh controls, including a setting that lets users dial how hard the model works on a task, now available on every plan. Anthropic also cut the price of fast mode, where the model runs at 2.5 times normal speed, to a third of what earlier models charged.

Pritchard Backs Opus 4.8 Judgment
Tom Pritchard, a staff engineer at Shopify, told Anthropic the coding version shows far better judgment. He said the model "asks the right questions, catches its own mistakes," and pushes back when a plan looks weak.
For teams burned by Al agents that wiped live production databases, that kind of promise may carry real weight.

The Fed’s rate lever is breaking as bond markets stop following its lead
For decades, the Fed stabilized the economy with one simple tool: interest rates. Raise them to cool inflation, and cut them to stimulate growth. But after years of massive government borrowing, post-pandemic inflation, and repeated stress inside the Treasury market, that system may no longer work the way Americans expect.

Today, the Fed can cut rates while long-term borrowing costs stay elevated, mortgage rates remain high, and bond markets react as if the central bank is losing control of the financial system's most important lever.

At the same time, it has also resumed expanding parts of its balance sheet again to support market liquidity, raising a bigger question on Wall Street: if emergency support is still needed during relatively calm periods, what happens during the next real crisis?

Sean Bill, co-founder of Bitcoin treasury company BSTR alongside Adam Back, noted that many of these companies lack the appropriate capital structure and the capability to effectively deploy Bitcoin. Bill stated that several firms expect the asset to do all the talking for them, referring to a segment of the market as carnival barkers. He explained that while holding Bitcoin can work to an extent if a company has cheap and easy access to leverage, firms must engage in value-add activities beyond simple accumulation. Otherwise, investors are more likely to opt for simple products like exchange-traded funds (ETFs).



While corporate Bitcoin treasuries have significantly driven market demand during this cycle, they have also introduced systemic risks that raise questions about a potential bubble. Analysts have warned that sharp price drops could trigger significant liquidations, while ongoing regulatory and market maturation could erode the premium currently enjoyed by Bitcoin proxy stocks. Data from BitcoinTreasuries indicates that 198 public companies collectively hold approximately 1.25 million Bitcoin, with Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy remaining the largest public corporate holder, controlling a treasury of 843,738 Bitcoin.

The financial strain on some players in the sector is already becoming apparent. Bitcoin treasury company Nakamoto (NAKA) has seen its stock decline by roughly 67% year-to-date and by over 99% since its May 2025 peak of about $34 per share. After hitting a low of $0.16 per share
