While most countries are still debating whether crypto is "real money," Vietnam is already asking a more practical question: can you borrow against it?
Here's the problem they're solving.
SMEs make up more than 98% of all businesses in Vietnam — but they receive only around 20% of total bank credit in the economy. The reason? Most of them don't have land, buildings, or physical assets that banks will accept as collateral.
Meanwhile, tech startups and digital companies are sitting on patents, software, intellectual property — and yes, digital assets — that hold real value but mean nothing to a traditional loan officer. The result is a massive credit gap that's been quietly strangling Vietnam's innovation economy.
So here's what's changing.
Vietnam's Ministry of Finance has proposed allowing SMEs to use digital assets, virtual assets, intellectual property, and future-formed assets as collateral for bank loans. The draft is part of a revised SME Support Law currently open for public consultation.
But it goes further than just collateral. The draft also pushes banks to evaluate borrowers based on credit ratings, business plans, cash flows and market potential — not just what physical property they own. That's a fundamental shift in how lending works.
And the timing makes perfect sense.
Vietnam already ranks 4th globally in Chainalysis' 2025 Crypto Adoption Index, behind only India, the US and Pakistan. A regulated crypto exchange could launch as early as Q3 2026, with five companies — including affiliates of major banks Techcombank, VPBank and LPBank — already clearing the first qualification round.
This isn't a country tiptoeing around crypto. Vietnam is building an entire ecosystem around it — from retail adoption, to regulated exchanges, to now embedding digital assets into the formal lending system.

Hyperliquid briefly flips Dogecoin, joins the top 10 crypto list after $67.5 ATHHyperliquid [$HYPE] hit a series of new all-time highs (ATH) on the price chart this week, thanks to media attention and ETF flows.

On the 29th of May, the altcoin climbed to another record high of $67.5, with the market cap surpassing $17B.

This briefly flipped Dogecoin [$DOGE], as $HYPE became the ninth-largest crypto by market cap and firmly joined the top 10 list. This would make Tron [TRX] and Solana [SOL] the next targets.

As of writing, however, the altcoin gave back some gains and traded at $64.5 and ranked 10th by market size on CoinMarketCap.
