Lao Electricity Company Announces It Will No Longer Provide Power to Local Crypto Mining Operations

August 28th, as reported by Vietnam News Agency, the Electricite du Laos (EDL) announced that it will no longer supply electricity to Laos' cryptocurrency mining operations. The notice, released on August 24th, stated that Laos experienced drought and heat in the first six months of 2023, resulting in high demand for electricity, while hydroelectric power plants were unable to generate enough electricity. Meanwhile, Laotian authorities stated that cryptocurrency mining operations failed to repay increasing debts.
