Dropbox cancels unlimited storage plan due to customer abuse of premium subscription service mining
2023/08/25 12:55
Dropbox, a cloud storage provider, has over 18 million paid users worldwide. The company announced the termination of unlimited storage, citing the increasing abuse of the product. Customers have been using their premium subscriptions for purposes unrelated to business, such as cryptocurrency, and Dropbox specifically targeted Chia (XCN) personal storage pools and even storage resale. Dropbox stated, "We have observed that the storage space consumed by such customers is often thousands of times greater than that of our true enterprise customers, which could lead to an unreliable experience for all of our customers. It is important that our premium policy has always been to provide as much storage as needed for legitimate enterprise or organizational needs, not to provide unlimited storage for any use case."
