Hong Kong Customs officially established the Wealth Investigation Division earlier this month to comprehensively review intelligence analysis and enforcement strategies for money laundering activities, including the declaration of a large number of cash items entering and leaving Hong Kong, registration of money service operators, and regulation of precious metal and gemstone traders.
Ye Dongjing, Senior Supervisor of the Customs Wealth Investigation Division, stated that the newly established division is led by one senior supervisor and has four sub-groups, namely the Wealth Intelligence Coordination Group, the first Wealth Investigation Group, the second Wealth Investigation Group, and the Criminal Profit Assessment Group. The team currently has a total of 91 personnel.
She said that the Wealth Investigation Division will have a basket of work to carry out both internally and externally in the future, actively sending representatives to international conferences, closely following international anti-money laundering strategies, strengthening communication and contact with international intelligence organizations, and actively expanding cooperation with different law enforcement agencies in the mainland and overseas.
Ye Dongjing said that the Wealth Investigation Division will establish closer partnerships with the banking and virtual currency industries, and will allocate more resources internally for comprehensive data analysis, develop risk-based enforcement strategies, and strengthen personnel professional training, including arranging relevant personnel to study professional courses and obtain internationally recognized qualifications to enhance their skills in investigating virtual currency transactions.
