On August 11th, it was reported that a federal court in New York allowed for a class-action lawsuit to be filed against cryptocurrency mining company Stronghold Digital. Stronghold is accused of misleading investors in its IPO.
Lead plaintiff Mark Winter claims that Stronghold's registration statement and prospectus contained significant false and misleading information about the company's mining business. According to a court order filed on Thursday, this includes false and misleading information regarding the company's revenue-generating capabilities.
The lawsuit alleges that Stronghold misled investors in regards to a supplier contract breach and the performance of its bitcoin mining machines, violating certain provisions of US securities laws.
Winter accuses Stronghold of overstating its computing power while underestimating its production costs. Due to alleged false statements, the plaintiffs argue that they suffered losses by purchasing Stronghold stock at artificially inflated prices.
