regarding the CAPO risk oracle configuration issue which triggered an approximately $27 million liquidation event on Aave, Aave founder Stani.eth responded on the X platform stating that the issue originated from a technical configuration error, causing some positions close to the liquidation threshold to be liquidated, but the Aave protocol itself was not affected and no bad debt was generated. Chaos Risk Oracles is an external risk control tool used by Aave, which has historically handled over 1,200 parameter updates and about 3,000 configurations without prior issues. The CAPO mechanism is an additional security system of Aave, mainly used to prevent price manipulation or inflation attacks that may occur with secondary market oracles. In this incident, a total of 345 ETH (about $700,000) was obtained by liquidators as extra liquidation profits, accounting for approximately 0.00274% of Aave protocol’s total scale. The related configuration issue has now been fixed, and Aave service providers (SPs) are formulating a compensation plan, intending to use fees previously obtained through liquidations by the protocol to compensate affected borrowers.
