British Citizen Pleads Guilty to Hacking Twitter and Stealing Cryptocurrencies Worth $794,000

British citizen Joseph James O'Connor, also known as PlugwalkJoe, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including hacking Twitter in 2020 and stealing cryptocurrencies worth $794,000 through a SIM Swap attack. O'Connor has also been indicted for hacking TikTok accounts and promoting fraudulent schemes. He faces a maximum sentence of 77 years on all counts of charges. The FBI has reported that US citizens lost over $10 billion in online frauds in 2022, with $2.57 billion drained by various crypto investment scams. Scams through verified Twitter accounts have notably increased ahead of Ethereum Merge.
