Ether Foundation researcher reveals pledging Ether may reveal user IP addresses and other information

Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ether Foundation, revealed that the IP addresses of ETH pledgers are monitored as part of the metadata set, leading the crypto community to view this as a privacy issue for Ether. " (or at the Ether Foundation) about such a database, explaining that "there's a lot of metadata that can be tracked, and you can look at deposit addresses, withdrawal addresses, fee recipients, and IP addresses." Drake also said that such a database could be used to defend against airdrop witch attacks, and may also be used for "special airdrops," where tokens are airdropped to individual pledgers rather than institutions such as Kraken or Coinbase, or to specific people.
