According to a report published by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, revenues from dark web marketplaces and fraud shops in 2022 are down on the previous year. total revenues from dark web marketplaces in 2022 will be $1.5 billion, down from $3.1 billion in 2021. The Hydra marketplace was again the highest-grossing dark web market in 2022, despite being sanctioned by OFAC in April and shut down in a joint US-German operation, followed by the Mega Darknet Market, Blacksprut Market and OMG!OMG! The closure of Hydra led to a decline in dark web market revenues across the industry, with the average daily revenue across all markets falling from $4.2 million before the closure to $447,000 afterwards.
