Fed Chairman Powell: Slowing the pace of rate hikes as soon as the December or February meeting

2022/11/02 19:51

Fed Chair Powell said we are not over-raising rates. The historical record strongly warns against premature easing, will maintain the policy path until the job is done, and will make every effort to achieve our goals. It is too early to consider a pause in rate hikes. At some point a slower pace of rate hikes would be appropriate. More important than the pace of rate hikes is how high rates need to rise, don't think there has been too much tightening, discussed slowing rate hikes at this meeting, and will slow the pace of rate hikes as soon as the December or February meeting.
