IOSCO Appoints Jean-Paul Servais as Board Chairman

2022/10/19 17:51

According to a coindesk report, the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has appointed Jean-Paul Servais as its new chairman. Servais, who previously served as vice chairman of IOSCO's board, will succeed Ashley Alder as chairman of the board. Servais is reportedly no stranger to the crypto space, as FSMA launched a consultation in July to determine whether cryptocurrencies should be classified as securities, investment vehicles or financial instruments. He is also providing information on cryptocurrencies at the 2020 Belgian Senate hearings. As previously reported, IOSCO said in a report that securities regulators should have the power to require the shutdown of foreign illegal cryptocurrency websites. The report said that "new cooperative mechanisms may be established to help ensure that local regulators of wrongdoers act to stop illegal activity online (including misconduct related to crypto-assets) at the request of foreign regulators who have identified violations.
