According to hankyung, a report submitted by the Korean National Police Agency show that the loss caused by illegal acts of virtual assets in South Korea in 2021 exceeded 3 trillion won (about $2.372 billion), an increase of about 15 times compared with 213.6 billion won in 2020. In addition, in the five years from 2017 to 2021, the Korean National Police Agency arrested a total of 1,976 individuals suspected of virtual asset violations, of which 862 were arrested in 2021, an increase of 53.9% compared to 2020 (560). In 2021, the VGlobal crypto exchange incident caused a loss of about 2.24 trillion won, and the number of victims reached 52,000.
