Strategy (MSTR) Raises $467 Million in Cash, Leaves Stash of 843,775 Bitcoin Untouched

Strategy (MSTR) sold about $466.7 million worth of its stock last week and put the proceeds toward cash rather than bitcoin, according to an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The move lifted the company’s U.S. dollar reserve to $3 billion and marked another week without a purchase from the largest corporate holder of bitcoin.

Between July 6 and July 12, the Michael Saylor–led firm sold 4,818,781 Class A common shares through its at-the-market equity program. It issued no preferred stock under its other ATM facilities during the period. 

The company said the fresh cash pushed its dollar reserve up by some $450 million, and that it holds the reserve to cover dividend payments on its preferred stock and interest payments on its outstanding debt.

Strategy neither bought nor sold bitcoin over the week. Its holdings stand at 843,775 BTC, a position the company acquired for an aggregate price of about $63.69 billion including fees and expenses, at an average of $75,476 per coin. 

At current prices near $63,000, that stack is worth about $53 billion, which leaves the firm with roughly $10.7 billion in paper losses. The holdings equal around 4% of bitcoin’s 21 million supply cap.

Markets read the filing without much enthusiasm. MSTR fell close to 3% in premarket trading on Monday, extending a slide that has erased 38% of the stock’s value since the start of the year. Bitcoin dropped through the weekend to trade around $62,500, a decline that pulled the so-called bitcoin proxy lower with it.

A shift in Saylor’s posture
For most of Strategy’s history, the pattern ran one direction: raise capital, buy bitcoin, repeat. This year has broken that rhythm. The company has leaned on a wider capital structure, and its recent disclosures show cash building rather than coins.

AMBCrypto reported that extreme fear ruled the market and had warned that derivatives demand was surging while spot demand was lacking. This spot-versus-derivatives divergence has naturally led to a correction.

Now, three separate catalysts arrive within the next 24 hours: June CPI at 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's semiannual testimony before Congress at 10:00 a.m. ET, and the start of US military enforcement of a blockade against Iranian shipping at 4:00 p.m. ET.

The July 14 blockade falls within the same trading day as the other two catalysts, and Bitcoin price could therefore open today's session reacting to backward-looking relief and close reacting to a forward-looking shock.Economists expect June's headline CPI to fall about 0.2% for the month, pulling annual inflation down to roughly 3.8% from May's 4.2%. They attribute much of that relief to gasoline prices that fell during the temporary US-Iran ceasefire in June.

Core inflation should remain near 2.8%-2.9% year over year.

That gasoline relief describes conditions that no longer apply, as oil settled over 9% higher on July 13, with Brent closing at $83.30 and WTI at $78.14 after news broke that the US blockade would intensify worries about shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Ethereum Price Forecast: ETH eyes a bounce at the 20-day EMA and $1,740 support

Ethereum saw $81.75 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours, led by $57 million in long liquidations, according to Coinglass data.

On the daily chart, ETH is maintaining a capped tone as it hovers just above the 20-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at $1,739, while remaining clearly below the 50-day EMA at $1,798 and the 100-day EMA at $1,946. This configuration suggests rallies are still being sold into despite a neutral Relative Strength Index (RSI) near 51 and a high but not overbought Stochastic reading, which together hint at waning downside pressure but not yet at a decisive bullish reversal.
On the downside, ETH is testing the horizontal floor at $1,741 and the 20-day EMA. Traders are watching to see if the EMA provides a bounce, as it did last week. Further down are the $1,524 and $1,404 levels, while $1,156 marks a more distant medium-term base should selling pressure intensify.

On the topside, ETH saw a rejection near $1,850, the same level that hindered its brief rise last month. The 50-day EMA also continues to act as short-term resistance, with stronger supply seen at $1,909 ahead of the 100-day EMA. Further resistance is seen at $2,018 and $2,107.
