Institutional appetite for Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) faced a sharp reversal this week, as the sector recorded a significant $173.73 million in net outflows. This pivot erases much of the gains seen during a brief two-day recovery, signaling a lack of sustained conviction among institutional traders.
The selling pressure was led by industry heavyweights. BlackRock’s IBIT saw an exit of $86.52 million, while Fidelity’s FBTC followed closely with $78.64 million in outflows. Even Grayscale’s GBTC continued its bleed with a $13.26 million loss. While Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust managed a modest $10.25 million inflow, it was insufficient to stem the tide. This bearish momentum extended to Ether ETFs, which posted a $7.1 million net outflow despite mixed activity across various funds.
Market Prediction
The recurring pattern of short-lived inflows followed by rapid liquidations suggests that the market is currently trapped in a "range-bound" cycle. Analysts predict that until Bitcoin can reclaim and stabilize above the $68,000 resistance level, ETFs will likely continue to see high volatility and "wait-and-see" behavior from institutional players. If outflows persist through the week, we may see a further test of support levels near $64,000 before a new trend emerges.

Circle targets wrapped Bitcoin market with new cirBTC product


Circle has unveiled cirBTC, a wrapped Bitcoin product aimed at institutional users, marking a broader push beyond its core stablecoin business and deeper into tokenized market infrastructure.

Circle said cirBTC will be backed 1:1 by $BTC, with reserves that are readily and independently verifiable onchain, and that the asset is being built to work across supported blockchains and the wider DeFi ecosystem.

The company is pitching cirBTC as a more secure and neutral wrapped Bitcoin option for firms that want Bitcoin exposure inside onchain markets without relying on less transparent structures.

Circle said the product is designed for OTC desks, market makers, lending protocols, and other institutions that need tokenized $BTC for trading, collateral, and settlement use cases. It also said cirBTC will launch first on Ethereum and Arc, Circle’s own blockchain project, and will integrate with USDC and Circle Mint as part of a broader Circle native stack.

The launch fits with Circle’s stated product direction for 2026, which centers on building what it calls the internet financial system through stablecoins, payments rails, blockchain infrastructure, and developer tooling. cirBTC extends that strategy into wrapped Bitcoin, giving Circle another asset it can plug into its existing payments, liquidity, and tokenization infrastructure.

The timing also puts Circle into a market that already has large incumbents. Wrapped Bitcoin, or WBTC, currently carries a market cap of roughly $8 billion, while Coinbase’s cbBTC stands near $6 billion, showing that tokenized Bitcoin liquidity onchain is already a sizable market.

The 'time pain' trap: why bitcoin’s bear market might need a few more months of ‘boring’ to hit a true floor

The two things most cryptocurrency investors are pondering are how much lower can bitcoin go and how much longer this bear market could last.

The price pain aspect has been discussed widely, but the time-based dimension is another question in itself.

Price pain refers to sharp drawdowns or volatility that force participants out of positions, while time pain reflects slow, range-bound conditions that exhaust both bulls and bears through lack of direction.

Bitcoin is currently trading below $66,000, down over 3% in the past 24 hours and roughly 45% below its October all-time high, an almost six-month bear market.

One indicator pointing toward continued time pain is the Realized Cap HODL Waves from Glassnode. This metric groups bitcoin supply by the last time coins moved, with each band representing different holding periods, and weights them by realized price, the average price at which coins last transacted on chain.

Historically, bear market bottoms have coincided with long-term holders, those holding for six months or more, controlling at least 85% of supply. Typically, price bottoms form first, and only several months later does long-term holder supply approach these high levels, indicating these investors bought at depressed prices and held through the bear market.

Currently, long term holders account for about 80% of supply. If this trend continues, the market may be nearing a bottoming phase, though several months of consolidation are likely still ahead.
