Outside the Bitcoin market, Michael Saylor's corporate treasury strategy attracted interest in the Ethereum [ETH] space as well.

In the Ethereum treasury market, Tom Lee's BitMine Immersion Technologies has become a prominent player, much like Strategy is in Bitcoin. Notably, BitMine started its crypto corporate journey by adding 100 BTC to its treasury in June 2025.

Indeed, Tom Lee's company did not fully switch to Ethereum until August 2025. Yet, despite this, BitMine quickly emerged as one of the most talked-about firms in the corporate Ethereum treasury market.

BitMine has so far acquired 5,180,131 ETH worth $12.36 billion at an average price of $2,336 per ETH.

The cryptocurrency market has continued its excellent start to the week as Bitcoin approaches the $82,000 psychological level.

Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, is down by less than 1% in the last 24 hours but has held steady above $2,300 despite persistent bearish signals across key metrics.

Derivatives data suggest a growing bearish bias
Ether is trading above $2,360 at press time on Wednesday, down by less than 1% in the last 24 hours.

The onchain supply metric shows that retailers have been strong distributors in the past week, with wallets in the bracket of 100-1K and 1K-10K ETH offloading roughly 820K ETH. 

The price decline comes as the cohort recorded major selling activity in the previous week, bringing their total distribution in the past two weeks to nearly 1.5 million ETH.

Most of the recent sell-off likely flowed from short-term holders, as evidenced by a steep decline in the 90-day Mean Coin Age metric.

This metric tracks the average number of days coins in that cohort have stayed in their current wallets.

In addition to that, investors have also reduced the number of Ether tokens they have staked.

On-chain data shows that investors unstaked roughly 300K ETH in the past week, its largest weekly outflow since November.

Despite retail investors reducing their exposure to the market, whales have maintained positive sentiment, accumulating 230K ETH last week.

The derivative market continues to show a bearish leaning.

While the crypto world focuses on bitcoin rally, a major market issue tied to decentralized finance (DeFi) looks to have resolved for good.

Borrowing dollar-pegged stablecoins such as tether and USD Coin ($USDC) from heavyweight decentralized lending platform Aave now costs 5% or less in annualized interest. That's much lower than the 13%–14% seen last month following the KelpDAO hack.

The aftermath of the exploit saw whales pull out millions worth of coins, including stablecoins, from Aave, leading to borrowing pools running short of liquidity. This forced some traders to resort to borrowing stablecoins against their own locked stablecoin deposits. The net result was a surge in borrowing rates that could have easily spilled over into the wider market.

Normalization occurred after Aave governance suggested measures to improve stablecoin liquidity and ecosystem participants raised more than $160 million in relief funding.

The crisis has resolved, and Aave V3 $USDC has now normalized to around 3.86%. Morpho’s curated vaults sit in a 3.5% to 5.4% range, while Sky’s USDS savings rate is around 3.65%,” said Adam Haeems, head of asset management at Tesseract Group. Tesseract has $500 million in assets under management.

He added that the stablecoin rate cycle, from spike to fix to normalization, ran entirely independent of where bitcoin trades, with no spillover effects. “That is the more useful story for institutional allocators,” he noted.

Speaking of BTC, it topped $82,000 early today as oil prices crashed 6% and Nasdaq futures rallied on reports that Iran and the U.S. are nearing an agreement to end the conflict that has disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, triggering gas price surges in the U.S. and petrol spikes in Asia.

Although the price patterns appear to be fairly similar, recent analyses by CryptoQuant indicated that the supply-demand structure of Ethereum [$ETH] and Bitcoin has differed.

At the time of writing, the Coinbase Premium Index of Bitcoin indicated that institutions, rather than just retailers, were responsible for April’s rally.Similarly, Ethereum too flashed signs of strong backup from institutions, even though $BTC was given more preference in capital allocation.Simultaneously, Bitcoin’s Exchange Netflow chart demonstrated more outflow spikes – A sign of sustained accumulation and decreased sell-side supply.For its part though, Ethereum has been more influenced by erratic exchange netflows, where short-term movements were determined by changes in supply. Instead of demand-driven growth, $ETH has so far seen a reactive, supply-driven structure.

Bitcoin has been in a downtrend in 2026. Not catastrophically, not existentially, but enough for the usual cycle to invite the familiar ritual…traders refreshing charts, headlines hunting for panic, and social feeds usually lighting up with declarations that the digital asset has “failed.”

Except this time, that reaction has been far less visible within the industry.

The “Bitcoin is dead” narrative, which used to show up almost every cycle, hasn’t really gained traction this time around.

That absence is arguably more important than the price action. And it shouldn’t be surprising that there’s more underlying faith in the asset despite the volatile price.

There’s been a steady flow of supportive signals. White House digital asset adviser Patrick Witt recently said the Trump administration is gearing up to share more on the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in the coming weeks. At the same time, confidence is building that the US CLARITY Act could move forward, especially now that the stablecoin yield language has been finalized.

More obvious signals that would confirm stronger bullish momentum would be things like sustained, multi-week inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs, and continued aggressive accumulation from players like Michael Saylor via Strategy, alongside broader large-scale institutional buying

For over a decade, Bitcoin moved in a rhythm almost everyone came to understand. Sharp rallies, violent drawdowns, and then the cultural add-on, obituaries. Each cycle had its own version. Whether Bitcoin was trading at $1,000, $10,000, or $60,000, the downturns reliably triggered a familiar chorus of doubt.

It wasn’t just a price correction; it was a philosophical collapse. Bitcoin wasn’t just falling; it was supposedly “finished.”
