Institutions Are Buying 6x Bitcoin’s Daily Supply: Is $96,000 Next?

Bitcoin’s latest rally is being driven by a sharp acceleration in institutional demand, according to Capriole Investments founder Charles Edwards, who says large buyers are now absorbing roughly six times the amount of $BTC mined each day. The setup has pushed several of Capriole’s long-running Bitcoin models back into bullish territory, with Edwards arguing that both on-chain and technical conditions now favor a continuation higher.

In a May 5 Substack post titled “Institutions are Guzzling Bitcoin,” Edwards said institutional flows have intensified since his previous update, rising to around 577% of daily mined supply. Bitcoin, he noted, has gained 12% over the same period.

“Institutions are slurping up 600%+ of Bitcoin’s daily mined supply. Every time it’s been this high before, price has shot up over the next week. As the chart shows, we’ve typically seen double digit returns from here with a couple of weeks in all prior cases.”

Based on that historical pattern, Edwards said a comparable move would put Bitcoin near $96,000. The argument is straightforward: if institutional demand continues to exceed new issuance by such a wide margin, available supply tightens quickly, especially in a market where long-term holders have already shown less willingness to sell into weakness.

Solana is facing fresh pressure as two weekly charts show weak momentum against both the dollar and Bitcoin. The chart compares the current Solana setup with the 2022 bear market phase, when $SOL moved sideways for an extended period before reaching its final low. More Crypto Online said the weekly RSI now resembles those earlier conditions, especially after traders pointed to February’s oversold reading as a possible recovery signal.

However, the analyst warned that the chart still needs confirmation. In technical analysis, an oversold RSI can show strong selling pressure, but it does not always confirm a bottom. Price often needs a clear upside impulse before the market structure turns stronger.

The chart shows one major RSI oversold event during the 2022 decline, when $SOL later dropped toward its final bear market low. A similar RSI zone appeared again in 2026, while $SOL traded near the lower part of its recent range. This comparison suggests that the current setup still carries risk unless buyers regain control.

$SOL price also remains far below its previous cycle highs above $200. After the latest decline, the token moved sideways around the $80 area. This price action shows that buyers have not yet created a strong reversal pattern on the weekly chart.

In February 2026, three major asset management companies filed their applications with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). These are Roundhill Investments, Bitwise, and GraniteShares. Their goal: to launch the first ETFs directly exposed to prediction markets.According to the current rule, an exchange-traded fund automatically becomes active after 75 days of filing, unless there is an explicit intervention from the U.S. regulator. This deadline falls precisely this week. The SEC has therefore made a last-minute decision. It suspends these launches to request additional information on :

According to an ETF analyst at Bloomberg, the first ETFs were supposed to be released as early as Thursday, May 5. Roundhill had even set an official effective date. The halt is therefore as abrupt as it is unexpected.

The launch of these products has particular importance. Indeed, they would have allowed retail investors to access (via a traditional exchange) binary event contracts traded on platforms regulated by the CFTC, such as Kalshi. Practically speaking, each contract pays 1 dollar if the event occurs, 0 dollar otherwise.

Bitcoin rebounded from the $65,000 demand zone and broke out of its descending channel before reclaiming the $80,000 level for the first time since January 31st. This move marked a clear structural shift, as price transitioned from a compression phase into expansion.

Price then approached the $78,839–$80K region, which aligned with a prior resistance zone formed after the breakdown. In addition, the formation of higher lows reinforced strengthening buyer control following the breakout.

If this breakout held above the reclaimed level, Bitcoin could extend toward the $84,982 resistance. However, failure to sustain above $80K would likely trigger a pullback toward consolidation as the market tested the strength of this structural shift.

At press time, the RSI climbed toward 67, reflecting strengthening bullish pressure as price advanced back above $80K. This increase showed expanding buyer participation without entering overbought territory, which typically signals exhaustion.

Moreover, RSI holding below 70 suggested that the rally still had room to extend if demand persisted.
