South Korea-based cryptocurrency exchange Upbit has announced it will add the Lighter ($LIT) token

 to its Korean won (KRW) trading market. According to the announcement, made on August 24, 2026, trading for $LIT is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM on the same day. The supported network for the token is Ethereum.

Upbit emphasized that users should carefully check network information before making $LIT deposits and withdrawals. The exchange will only support $LIT transfers made via the Ethereum network. It was stated that assets sent using different networks may not be reflected in the account and refund processes may take a long time.

Certain restrictions will also be applied at the start of trading for $LIT. Accordingly, buy orders will be limited for approximately five minutes after trading begins. During the same period, sell orders placed at 10% or less of the previous day’s closing price will also not be allowed. Furthermore, the use of order types other than limit orders, such as market orders, and conditional orders will be restricted for the first approximately two hours.

According to Upbit data, $LIT’s previous day closing price on the $BTC market was 0.00004500 $BTC. This value corresponds to approximately 4,803 Korean won.

Lighter operates as a protocol offering a decentralized perpetual futures market. Assets are held on the L1 platform in its order book-based infrastructure, while transactions are executed in the L2 environment. $LIT is used within the protocol for staking and liquidity participation.

Token holders can obtain the participation limit for the Lighter Liquidity Pool (LLP) by staking a certain amount of $LIT. Additionally, they can benefit from exemptions from transfer and withdrawal fees, as well as transaction fee advantages, at certain staking levels.

Upbit also warned users that transaction processing might be delayed if sufficient liquidity is not available.

Ethereum lending app Term Finance loses $8.5 million after attacker buys voting powerEthereum lending platform Term Finance has lost an estimated $8.5 million after an attacker seemingly acquired enough voting power to take control of some of its lending vaults.

The attacker removed roughly 2,843 ether $ETH$2,456.26, worth about $6.9 million at the time, and 1.68 million USDC, blockchain data shows, draining about 68% of the assets held in Term’s vaults.

Term's Meta Vaults held about $12.45 million before the attack, data from DefiLlama show. Nearly all of the roughly $8.8 million in ether deposited in the product was taken.

The unusual part is how the attacker may have gained access.

Onchain monitoring service Defimon said the attacker cheaply acquired a majority of the project’s sparsely held governance token, which gave holders voting rights over how the protocol is operated. The attacker then allegedly used that voting power to pass proposals that gave it control of the vaults.

Term has not confirmed how the attacker obtained majority control or exactly which governance functions were used. It has now permanently shut the product, blocked new deposits and removed the governance permissions that allowed changes to the vaults.

The wider Term Finance protocol and its direct borrowing and lending markets were not affected based on the company's investigation so far, the team said in a Monday post.

Term said it is working with outside security teams on recovering assets and will explore ways to cover any remaining losses.

Upbit lists Lighter’s LIT in South Korean won market
Upbit will add a South Korean won trading market for Lighter’s $LIT token at 1:00 pm KST on Aug. 24, according to an official exchange announcement.

The $LIT/KRW listing will allow Upbit customers to purchase the token directly with won. $LIT was already available through Upbit’s Bitcoin market, which provided the reference price used to establish the new market’s opening restrictions.

Upbit listed $LIT’s previous $BTC market closing price as 0.00004500 $BTC, equivalent to approximately 4,803 won. The figure is a reference for initial order controls and does not guarantee the token’s opening price in the won market.

The exchange warned that trading could be postponed if it fails to secure sufficient liquidity after deposits and withdrawals become available.

This week, the crypto market is gearing up for an information-rich week, as a number of key U.S. economic indicators are expected to shape Fed policy expectations. Bitcoin and other risk assets may see more volatile movement as investors evaluate inflation, economic growth and labor market conditions.

Key Economic Events This Week
The main attention will be on the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index for July, which is released on Wednesday. The preferred inflation measure of the Federal Reserve is PCE. The headline measure is projected to be 0.1% higher month-on-month following a 0.1% decline in June.

Meanwhile, the annual rate is projected to be 3.6% compared with 3.7%. The figures for the Core PCE (excluding the food and energy prices) are projected to rise by 0.2% from the prior month. The annual reading is forecast to be 3.3%.

The inflation data will be carefully considered before the Fed’s September meeting. June PCE inflation was at 3.7% and core PCE was 3.3%. Both are still above the central bank’s 2% inflation target. A higher than desired reading in July may further support the expectations that interest rates will stay higher. A more benign print might bolster anticipation for easier policy.

Another big indicator will be GDP growth. The latest projections call for 1.5 per cent annualised expansion in the second quarter. This is up from 2.1% growth in the first quarter. A new GDP report will also be released Wednesday.

Labor will stay in the spotlight on Thursday as weekly new claims for unemployment benefits are released. Initial claims for the week ending Aug. 22 are forecast to remain steady at 206,000, the same amount as last week. The figure will provide a further pointer as to the state of employment conditions.
