Bitcoin Price Today: BTC Pulls Back From $81,300, What’s Next?Bitcoin pierced the $80,000 mark overnight, reaching as high as $81,300 before pulling back to roughly $79,000, according to chart analysis from Verified Investing chief market strategist Gareth Soloway. The pullback has raised a question for traders. Does this rally confirm a new bull market, or is Bitcoin simply testing resistance in an ongoing bear market?

Signs of Fading Momentum

Soloway pointed to a few technical warning signs building on the chart:

Growing upper wicks on recent candles, a pattern he said signals increasing selling pressure as price pushes higher

A trend line, previously support, that is now acting as resistance after being broken and retested

A cluster of resistance levels stacking up in the $80,000 to $83,000 region

The One Question That Matters

According to Soloway, confirming a genuine trend reversal comes down to a single technical test. Has Bitcoin made a higher high compared to its prior swing high?

The relevant prior high sits at $82,830

As of this analysis, Bitcoin has not yet closed above that level

A confirmed break above $82,830 would mark the first higher high in the current pattern, an early signal of a potential shift from a downtrend to an uptrend

Soloway was clear that even a break above this level would only be the “beginning stages” of confirming a new bull market, not definitive proof on its own.

Where a Pullback Could Land

If Bitcoin does confirm a higher high, Soloway laid out two possible support zones for a subsequent pullback:

$73,000, a more aggressive buy-the-dip level based on prior price action

$67,000, which he described as the stronger, more conservative buyable level given the prior consolidation and breakout pattern at that price

Soloway said the method for judging trend direction doesn’t need to be complicated. The question, he said, is simply whether Bitcoin has shifted from

Pompliano said, “As long as they keep printing money, Bitcoin will continue to rise in the long term,” and added:

Wall Street is making it easier for bitcoin
BlackRock has made it a lot cheaper for bitcoin whales to swap self-custody for shares in its Nasdaq-listed spot $BTC ETF, IBIT, a shift that’s accelerating due to crypto crime, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The minimum value of bitcoin needed to swap directly into IBIT shares slipped to $1 million in July. It used to be $25 million, the report said, adding that ETF issuer Bitwise has also cut its threshold to $3 million from $100 million.

The swapping works through a process called “in-kind creation,” where investors hand over their $BTC to the fund and get ETF shares back. This way they don’t need to sell their $BTC and then buy ETF shares, which attracts capital gains tax.

Such transactions are already booming. IBIT alone has processed more than $5 billion of these swaps, up from $3 billion back in October, according to Robbie Mitchnick, BlackRock's head of digital assets.

Driving the trade is crypto kidnappings, hacks, and custody failures. "People see things happen in the outside world... that motivate them to make this switch for all or some of their holdings," Mitchnick told Bloomberg.

The trend is not limited to bitcoin. Issuers such as Grayscale and VanEck now do this for ether.

Spot ETFs have pulled in billions in investor money since their debut in 2024.

$ICP price remains stuck near its 2026 lows, with the token trading around $2.39 after spending much of 2026 inside a narrow $2.01-$2.85 range. The broader crypto recovery has offered some relief, but $ICP hasn’t exactly joined the party, staying below its weekly 20-EMA and keeping the larger trend bearish.

$ICP Price Needs $2.85 Before Bulls Matter

The immediate problem is simple: buyers haven’t produced enough force to clear $2.85. Until that happens, calling the current move a trend reversal would be getting ahead of the $ICP price chart.

A sustained break above $2.85 would put the weekly 50-EMA near $3.15 next on the radar. From the current $2.39 level, a stronger continuation could eventually open the path toward $6.29, representing roughly 171% upside, while $9.84 would mark a roughly 315% move and align with the weekly 200-EMA. That’s the bullish scenario. It needs demand first.
Address Data Shows Buyers Aren’t Alone

The more interesting part is happening underneath the price. Address distribution shows accumulation among smaller holders, with the 0.001-10 $ICP cohort rising and the 10-10,000 $ICP group also increasing.

But larger holders aren’t moving in lockstep. The 10,000-100,000 $ICP cohort has been declining since the early-August high, suggesting selling pressure.

Meanwhile, the 100,000-1 million $ICP group has started rising during August after a significant decline, pointing toward renewed accumulation among some addresses. The 1 million-10 million $ICP cohort, however, has continued declining from its mid-June peak. So yes, there is accumulation. There’s dumping too.
Bigger Holders Could Decide $ICP’s Next Move

That tug-of-war helps explain why $ICP price hasn’t responded strongly despite improving broader market sentiment. Smaller holders are accumulating, while some larger cohorts are reducing exposure, effectively cancelling part of the buying pressure.

Alternative coins are back in alignment with Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, according to a recent observation made by a leading on-chain analytics platform. In a recent report shared by CryptoQuant, Altcoins have begun to move with Bitcoin again. 

Notably, the 14-day average correction between the big bull and altcoins has soared to 0.87. This development is especially remarkable as it marks the highest level recorded since June of 2026.

The trend is credited to Bitcoin’s recent price increase, which appears to be pulling the broader crypto market higher. 

Bitcoin, which often acts as the dominant market leader and liquidity anchor for other cryptocurrencies, often sets the tone for price movements due to its large market share, often within the 50–60% dominance level.

Additionally, many altcoins trade in BTC pairs, so historically, BTC’s USD moves directly affect their values. The Pearson correlation observed in market studies shows a strong correlation between Bitcoin and other leading altcoins like Ethereum’s ETH, Solana’s SOL, and other top assets, especially during broad market moves.
