Fundstrat’s Lee sees a crypto comeback once precious metals cool

Fundstrat managing partner Tom Lee predicts that crypto markets will likely catch up once gold and silver begin to take a break from their recent rallies.

Tom Lee said on CNBC’s Power Lunch on Monday that crypto should be going up on a weaker dollar and an easing Federal Reserve.

However, it doesn’t have the leverage tailwind because the industry delevered, “and as long as gold and silver are rising, then there’s a FOMO into buying that instead of crypto,” he said.

“Because when gold and silver take a break, then and in the past, that would lead to a Bitcoin and Ethereum surge afterwards.”

Gold prices hit an all-time high of $5,100 on Monday, following a gain of 17.5% since the beginning of the year. Silver also skyrocketed, hitting a peak price of $110 at the same time after gaining 57% so far this year.

Market observers have attributed the surge in precious metals to rising geopolitical tensions, trade tariff threats, and US dollar weakness, driving investors to safe-haven assets.
October crash still hurting markets

Earlier in the interview, Lee explained that markets were still feeling the ripple effects of the Oct. 10 deleveraging event, which “crippled many key players in the industry,” including exchanges and market makers. As a result, he said, the industry is “limping along, but the fundamentals have improved a lot.”

Bitcoin (BTC) has lost 30% of its value since its October peak and is struggling to find any momentum above $95,000, having tanked back to support at $86,000 on Monday.

“I think the precious metal move has sucked a lot of the oxygen out of the room,” said Lee.

“So, I think crypto prices aren’t quite keeping up with fundamentals, but as you know, when fundamentals go up and to the right, prices eventually follow.”

With the persistent bearish wave in the market continuing, crypto assets remain in the red, failing in their back-to-back recovery attempts. The broader sentiment is still hanging around extreme fear, and the largest assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum have retraced to their recent lows. Meanwhile, Humanity Protocol (H) has posted a 8.96% gain in value.

The token opened the day trading at a bottom of $0.2086, and with the entry of bulls, the momentum shifted and sent the price to a high of $0.2487. Also, a few crucial resistances were broken between $0.2097 and $0.2476. At press time, Humanity Protocol trades at $0.2208, with its trading volume having soared by 54.97% to $112.82 million.

Humanity Protocol’s 4-hour chart reports the downtrend may form if the bullish pressure fades. Assuming the price climbs to the resistance above $0.2221, the uptrend could expand. Upon the emergence of the golden cross, the bulls would send the price toward the $0.2234 range.

On the support side, a potential bearish fall might initiate the Humanity Protocol price to slip to $0.2195. With the formation of the death cross, the price movement may face a few key support levels. The bears could strengthen the move on the downside and let the value retrace to $0.2182.

Pullback or Trend Shift? Humanity Protocol at a Technical Crossroads

Humanity Protocol’s technical analysis displays that the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line slips below the signal line. It shows that a short-term bearish momentum is starting to build. Since both lines are above zero, the broader trend remains bullish.

Shiba Inu Open Interest Crashes 11% as SHIB Price Hits Near 3-Year Low


Shiba Inu fell to lows last seen in October 2023 as the crypto market deepened a sell-off that has persisted in recent weeks.


A total of $2.45 billion has been liquidated alone in the last 24 hours following a weekend drop, with significant losses recorded among most digital assets. Long positions accounted for the majority of liquidations, coming in at $2.27 billion, with shorts accounting for only $180 million.


This imbalance points to traders being caught unawares by the crash while staying optimistic about a rebound after weeks of range-bound price action in the markets.


Amid the price drop, Shiba Inu saw its open interest crash, falling 11%. According to CoinGlass, Shiba Inu's open interest came in at $75.74 million, with futures flow dropping 193% in the last 24 hours, suggesting traders reducing exposure in the derivatives market.


Thin weekend liquidity increased selling pressure as trading volumes declined into the weekend, a setup that might boost volatility.


SHIB price drops


Shiba Inu saw a sharp price drop on Saturday, falling to a low of $0.00000617 last seen nearly three years ago, in a four-day drop.


Shiba Inu team member Lucie reacts to the market crash, which has seen $2.45 billion in positions wiped out, saying: "these crashes all follow the same script. Over-leverage, panic, forced selling, repeat. Survival in crypto is not about timing every move. It is about a strong community and staying present when everything shakes." "But we got this," Lucie added.
