Crypto investment firm CoinShares recently underwent a reshuffle that saw Meltem Demirors transition out of her executive position as Chief Strategy Officer. As of December 31, Demirors stepped down from CoinShares’ executive management committee, moving to an advisory role for the company instead. She is no longer formally heading up strategy at CoinShares.
Demirors continues to be an active investor and advisor in the crypto space through her personal fund Athena Capital. However, the move signals a change in her direct involvement with CoinShares’ executive management. To replace Demirors as head of strategy, CoinShares has appointed Lewis Fellas as the new head of its hedge fund division. Fellas has since joined CoinShares’ executive management committee in Demirors’ former seat.
In January 2022, CoinShares announced it had secured an exclusive option to acquire U.S.-based crypto asset manager Valkyrie Funds. The potential acquisition aims to expand CoinShares’ product offerings and presence in the American crypto investment market. Notably, Valkyrie Funds manages a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) that has received regulatory approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Neither Coinshares nor Demirors provided any public statements around the leadership transition beyond the initial announcement. The personnel changes signal CoinShares’ continued evolution as a major player in the global crypto investment industry.
While no longer directly leading strategy at CoinShares, Meltem Demirors maintains her role as a pioneering voice and investor in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology through her firm Athena Capital. Demirors continues to be a sought-after speaker on Twitter and within the crypto community on topics like digital asset adoption, decentralization, and industry progress.
