South Korea has seen cryptocurrency-based overseas remittances climb 380% in the past three years, outpacing growth in traditional bank transfers as financial institutions increase their focus on blockchain-powered payment services.

Overseas transfers through South Korea’s five major banks grew 20% over the same period, totaling about 1,590 trillion won in 2025.



South Korean banks are expanding their focus on stablecoins and blockchain payments as the country prepares to launch a regulated virtual asset transfer framework in December.








According to a SBS Biz report, remittances processed through South Korea’s five largest won-denominated cryptocurrency exchanges rose from 34.02 trillion won ($26.2 billion) in 2022 to 163.55 trillion won ($125.8 billion) last year. The figures were cited from data provided by the office of Congressman Kim Sang-hoon.



The report showed that foreign currency remittances handled by the country’s five major commercial banks reached 1.108 trillion dollars in 2025. Based on the annual average exchange rate, that amounted to about 1,590 trillion won. In 2022, the same banks processed 1.009 trillion dollars, equivalent to roughly 1,318 trillion won, resulting in growth of about 20% over the three-year period.



Hwang Seok-jin, a professor at Dongguk University’s Graduate School of International Information Protection, told SBS Biz that lower transaction costs may have encouraged consumers to use cryptocurrency platforms instead of banks for overseas transfers.

Bitcoin Cash faces a possible 50% decline
The Aloha on-chain signal, an indicator that has marked the tops and bottoms of asset prices on multiple occasions, shows that neither target has been met for $BCH so far.

At press time, data from Alphractal places $BCH in the middle of that range, between its top and bottom. Joao Wedson, senior analyst and founder of Alphractal, said he would not be surprised by a further $BCH drop despite the asset’s record.

“Even with this impressive track record, I would not be surprised if $BCH still falls further.”

If a drop materializes, the signal indicates the price would likely find a floor near $100—the level that typically marks its bottom—roughly 50% below where it trades now.

Wedson added that nothing guarantees the decline, noting that “no market ever gives certainty.” However, AMBCrypto reviewed the wider spot and derivatives data to gauge how that move could play out.

Galaxy Research reports that net outflows of $6.35 billion over the past 30 days have caused U.S. spot Bitcoin [BTC] ETFs to record their worst monthly performance since their inception.

This number is the highest of all 582 rolling 30-day periods that the firm tracks, highlighting a notable exodus of institutional capital from Bitcoin investment products.

If the trend continues, such prolonged outflows could lessen the short-term demand support for Bitcoin prices. Needless to say, these outflows usually indicate waning investor sentiment, profit-taking, or a more general shift toward risk-off positioning.

Winners and losers of Bitcoin ETF
During these 30 days, BlackRock’s IBIT experienced the biggest outflows, totaling $4.51 billion, making it the loser of the month. Morgan Stanley’s MSBT, on the other hand, saw $1.25 billion in inflows after winning in these 30 days.

While this happened, Bitcoin’s price dropped from about $76K in early May to $64K at the time of publication.

Bastian Aue, an operations team member at the Ethereum Foundation who goes by the pseudonym Aerugo, has stated that Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) could emerge as the next major front in the ongoing cypherpunk war. His comments, reported by Wu Blockchain, underscore a deepening ideological divide within the Ethereum ecosystem over the technology’s core purpose.

What Is MEV and Why Does It Matter?

Maximal Extractable Value refers to the profit that block proposers—typically validators or miners—can extract by reordering, including, or excluding transactions within a block. While MEV has become a lucrative mechanism in decentralized finance, it also raises serious concerns about fairness, censorship, and network neutrality. Aue’s remarks place this technical debate squarely within the philosophical framework that has guided Ethereum since its inception.

Aue emphasized that the Ethereum Foundation holds censorship resistance, privacy, and self-sovereignty as its core values. He explicitly stated that the foundation does not exist to maximize its appeal to short-term speculators or institutional investors. This positions the debate over MEV not merely as a technical or economic issue, but as a fundamental test of Ethereum’s original cypherpunk ethos.

The cypherpunk movement, which emerged in the early 1990s, advocates for the use of cryptography and decentralized systems to protect individual privacy and resist centralized control.
