Bitcoin difficulty falls to 135.59T – But THESE 3 miner signals warn of stress


On the 19th of April, the Bitcoin mining difficulty had fallen to 135.59 trillion after a drop of 1.13% in the past 24 hours. In simple terms, the Bitcoin miners had to perform 135.59 trillion times more work than the original baseline (which was set at 1 back in 2009) to find a block.

Now, a drop in mining difficulty may look positive on the surface, as there is less competition, which is directly proportional to a surge in earning rewards. Additionally, strong miners take the lead as a drop in Bitcoin mining difficulty flushes out the weak miners.

Other side of the coin

However, on the contrary, a fall in Bitcoin difficulty also means a fall in Hashrate, which was at 1.063 ZH/s at the time of publishing.

This drop in turn means lower security, further resulting in miner capitulation. If the latter occurs, then Bitcoin’s price will drop, and many mining platforms might also face shutdowns.

However, it’s also important to note that the latter happens only when there is a sharp drop. With a modest drop of 1.13%, things might be healthy and just a short-term noise rather than a miner exit scenario.

Bitcoin miner revenue also faces the brunt

However, Bitcoin’s Daily Miner Revenue and Network Hashrate chart from CryptoQuant suggest that the situation in the miner space is concerning.

Ethereum’s market structure is tightening as staking activity continues to rise, steadily reducing the liquid supply available for trading.

With over 32% of $ETH now staked, a significant portion remains locked, which compresses the tradable float across exchanges. This shift matters because it directly impacts market depth, making order books thinner over time.

As liquidity tightens, price becomes more sensitive to incoming demand, which allows even moderate inflows to drive sharper upside moves. However, this same condition introduces fragility, as thinner liquidity reduces the market’s ability to absorb selling pressure.

If support weakens, downside moves can accelerate quickly, reflecting a structure where supply constraint amplifies both upward and downward volatility.

Demand structure weakens as perpetuals drive momentum

As staking continues to lock supply, the demand side begins to show a different character, where derivatives take the lead instead of spot conviction.

Activity shifts quickly into leveraged markets, with Perpetual Volume rising to $34.74 billion, far above the $14.29 billion Spot Volume, which shows traders prefer speed over stability.

However, Open Interest (OI) fell to around $31.18 billion, down 5.75%, which suggests traders are not building sustained positions but rotating exposure.

Consequently, Funding Rates turned slightly negative, reflecting growing short pressure even as price held. This creates a mixed structure, where some traders position for downside while others chase short-term moves.

As a result, price becomes more reactive rather than stable, implying that users face faster swings, where gains can reverse quickly without strong spot demand to support them.

Hackers impersonated eth.limo team to hijack its domain: Post-mortem
Ethereum Name Service gateway eth.limo has revealed that the domain hijacking on Friday was caused by a social engineering attack directed against EasyDNS, its domain name service provider.

According to a postmortem published by eth.limo on Saturday, an attacker impersonated one of its team members to initiate an account recovery process with easyDNS, granting access to the eth.limo account and allowing them to alter domain settings.

“The NS records were changed and directed to Cloudflare… Once we understood that a DNS hijack had taken place, we immediately notified the community as well as Vitalik Buterin and others. We then began contacting EasyDNS in an attempt to respond to the incident,” the company said.

Eth.limo serves as a Web2 bridge, providing access to around 2 million decentralized websites using the .eth domain name. Hijacking the service could allow an attacker to redirect users to malicious websites. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin warned users Friday to avoid his blog until the incident was resolved.

Mark Jeftovic, CEO of easyDNS, has publicly accepted responsibility for the incident in its own postmortem report.

“We screwed up and we own it,” said Jeftovic on Saturday.

“This would mark the first successful social engineering attack against an easyDNS client in our 28-year history. There have been countless attempts.”

Both companies have pointed to the Domain Name System Security Extension (DNSSEC) in thwarting the hacker’s attempts to do further damage.

The attacker couldn’t produce valid cryptographic signatures, so Domain Name System resolvers rejected the attacker’s forged DNS responses, causing users to see error messages instead of being redirected to malicious sites.
