The crypto industry’s embrace of AI is less about chatbots and more about building financial infrastructure for autonomous machines, says Chappy Asel, a former Apple engineer and founder of AI nonprofit The AI Collective.

Speaking at Consensus Miami, Asel, founder of The AI Collective, a global nonprofit AI community with more than 200,000 members across 150+ chapters, argued that as software agents increasingly make economic decisions on behalf of users and businesses, they will need payment systems capable of handling low-latency, programmable transactions at scale.

BitMine has accumulated more than 4% of the total ETH supply in under 12 months. This percentage was calculated since it began adding the second-largest crypto to its holdings.

In a keynote speech at the Consensus crypto conference in Miami, Lee admitted they had achieved this milestone unexpectedly quickly. Initially, they thought it would take five years.

BitMine seeks to remain competitive in the crypto industry 

BitMine purchases more than 100,000 ETH weekly. This acquisition is approximately $230 million. However, Lee hinted that the company might stop buying once holdings exceed 5.18 million ETH. 

“I believe we will reduce our buying speed. I’m not sure we want to reach 5% too quickly,” the Chairman asserted. Regarding BitMine’s goal, he argued that, “If we keep buying 100,000 ETH each week, we’ll hit that target in about six weeks.” 

Afterward, Lee noted that they are slowing the accumulation to focus on other crypto opportunities. He did not outline these opportunities but mentioned that his firm’s diverse activities were beneficial.

Other achievements BitMine accomplished include introducing the Made in America Validator Network (MAVAN) for Ethereum staking. It has also made investments in MrBeast’s Beast Industries and Eightco.

Lee commented, “In our opinion, the risk versus reward looks great for BitMine since we have many investments out there.”  “We’re involved in Ethereum, staking, several high-risk opportunities, and of course the stock,” he added.

IREN revenue falls 22% to $145 million as bitcoin miner leans harder into AI

IREN Limited (NASDAQ: IREN) has announced revenue fell to $144.8 million in the quarter ended March 31, 2026, down from $184.7 million in the prior quarter, as weaker Bitcoin economics collided with its ongoing buildout of AI Cloud capacity.

The drop was $39.9 million, tied to a lower average Bitcoin price and the removal of older mining machines before new GPU systems began generating full customer billing.

The bottom line was uglier. IREN reported a net loss of $247.8 million, compared with a $155.4 million loss in Q2 FY26. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $59.5 million from $75.3 million. Costs also came down by $25.9 million, mainly because reduced mining activity lowered power use.

The quarter carried $140.4 million in non-cash impairments, mostly from retired mining hardware, and $23.7 million in unrealized losses tied to capped calls linked to convertible notes.

IREN replaces old mining hardware with Blackwell GPUs under a new NVIDIA deal

IREN signed a five-year, $3.4 billion AI Cloud contract with NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) covering air-cooled Blackwell GPUs. The company plans to place that hardware inside 60MW of existing data center space at Childress, with customer ramp-up expected from early 2027.

Daniel Roberts, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of IREN, said, “The world is structurally short compute, and the bottleneck is delivered data center and GPU capacity.” After that, Daniel said the quarter included work across power, land, data center construction, and large-scale compute delivery.

The company also entered a wider 5GW partnership with NVIDIA. That agreement covers data center designs and infrastructure built around NVIDIA systems across IREN’s global power base. Despite the improving fundamentals, TON’s upcoming token unlock continues to represent one of the largest risks to its current momentum.

Token unlocks introduce previously restricted tokens into circulation, increasing available supply within the market. Projects commonly use these token releases to fund ecosystem development, community incentives, and operational activities.

TON is expected to unlock approximately $103 million worth of tokens on the 24th of May. A supply increase of that magnitude could place downward pressure on price if buying demand fails to keep pace with the additional circulation.


The risk becomes more significant considering that TON’s inflows and outflows had only recently ranged between $7 million and $15 million before the latest rally pushed activity higher.

Recent trading sessions recorded inflows between roughly $143 million and $200 million, and the market must maintain that level of demand to absorb the new supply without weakening bullish momentum.

On Tuesday, Spain’s fourth-largest banking group by assets, Sabadell, announced it will join the Qivalis consortium as traditional financial institutions wrestle with the fast-growing stablecoin industry and broader crypto market adoption, Reuters reported.

The Qivalis consortium was set up in Amsterdam in 2025 by several major European banks to develop and issue a Markets in Crypto Asset Regulation (MiCA) compliant, euro‐pegged stablecoin in the second half of 2026 to help counter the US dollar’s dominance in digital payments.

Sabadell’s CEO, César González-Bueno, said in a press conference that the Qivalis initiative “is primarily designed ⁠to make transactions more efficient and secure,” adding, “It is a European project that we believe makes sense, and we will indeed be part of it.

Notably, the project comprises a dozen European institutions, including ING, UniCredit, KBC, Danske Bank, and BNP Paribas. Last month, Spain’s BBVA, the country’s second-largest bank and one of the largest financial institutions globally, announced it had also joined the banking consortium.

As reported by Bitcoinist, the banking giant considers that collaboration is crucial to “create common standards that support the evolution of the future banking model and deliver financial innovation to our clients in a consistent and practical way.”
