Judge clears path for Aave to move $71 million in ETH linked to North Korea hack

A Manhattan federal judge has cleared the way for Aave's recovery effort to move forward after last month's North Korea-linked rsETH exploit, allowing $71 million in frozen ether to be transferred out of Arbitrum while preserving North Korean terrorism victims' legal claim on the funds.

In a two-page order published late Friday U.S. time, Judge Margaret Garnett modified a restraining notice previously served on Arbitrum DAO to allow an onchain governance vote transferring the immobilized $ETH to a wallet controlled by Aave LLC.

The move may put a shadow on further bullish aspirations, as a section of analysts had already been predicting that this was a bull trap. As Bitcoin continues to enjoy its relatively long stint above the $80k price level, there are growing indicators that the cryptocurrency could face selling pressure once again.Crypto Quant tweeted:Based on the graph, the premier cryptocurrency's unrealized profit has risen sharply over the last 30 days. So much so that it mirrors the situation in June 2025, when the cryptocurrency was in the middle of a major bull market. The way it happened was that the cryptocurrency dumped hard in the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, going as low as $60k in the process. The major dip allowed smart buyers to accumulate the digital asset at reasonable prices, and it is now up more than 35% from the local bottom around $60k. Unrealized profits are the difference between the current market price and the average acquisition cost of coins. When profits start to diverge significantly from the latest price levels, it creates an incentive to sell in the short term and buy again once the price dips again. The situation often creates a sell-off risk, CryptoQuant warns.Historically, short-term holders have often capitulated, and profits have reached +35% levels, as we are seeing right now. Local tops, like the recent activity, have often been followed by corrective dips. The announcement was made Friday through Trump's Truth Social account, where he described the agreement as a possible turning point in the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war. According to Trump, the ceasefire will include a complete halt to kinetic military activity and a large-scale prisoner exchange involving 1,000 detainees from each side. The proposed pause in fighting coincides with Victory Day celebrations, a significant World War II commemoration observed in both Russia and Ukraine. #BTC Price Guess: 18M HTX Awaits You Banking trade groups criticize Clarity Act for stablecoin loopholes

The American Bankers Association, the Bank Policy Institute, and allied trade groups are sounding the alarm over a provision buried in the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act that they say creates a backdoor for crypto platforms to offer yield on stablecoins. The concern is straightforward: if stablecoin issuers can effectively pay interest under a different name, traditional bank deposits become a lot less attractive.

Section 404 of the CLARITY Act is the specific flashpoint. It permits stablecoin issuers to offer rewards based on a holder’s balance and the duration they hold, which, to the banking industry, looks an awful lot like paying interest without calling it interest.

What the banking lobby is actually worried about

The joint statement from the banking groups does not mince words. They argue that if these yield-like mechanisms go unchecked, the result could be a massive outflow of deposits from the traditional banking system. Their estimate of the damage is striking: lending to consumers, small businesses, and farmers could be curtailed by over 20%.

Consumer-focused banks, the community lenders and regional institutions that rely most heavily on retail deposits, are particularly anxious. Major Wall Street firms, by contrast, have been more supportive of the CLARITY Act because it provides clearer guidelines for crypto trading operations they’re eager to scale up.

The Clarity Act’s broader ambitions

The CLARITY Act was introduced on May 1, 2026, after what has been described as lengthy bipartisan negotiations. Its ambition goes well beyond stablecoins. The bill attempts to create a comprehensive federal regulatory framework for crypto markets.

A Senate Banking Committee markup was anticipated for the following week after introduction, signaling legislative momentum that crypto bills have rarely enjoyed.
