PrivyCycle and the Unfinished Project to Ensure Privacy for Health Apps on Ethereum

Inspiration rarely strikes where you expect it. PrivyCycle was born not in the predictable hum of laptops at an ETHCC hackathon, but in the heat of the Berlin summer scene in June 2025.

There, under the spotlight of d/acc Berlin and in front of a crowd of Ethereum’s sharpest minds, Mihgl Rakitaite, the visionary behind Wxmen Web3Privacy Now, stood face to face with Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin. The air crackled as Rakitaite, along with other privacy advocates, directly challenged Buterin: why hasn’t the Ethereum Foundation promoted and funded a crypto-native solution to protect sensitive health data, specifically menstrual tracking apps on the blockchain?  In that tense moment, as questions of privacy and accountability swirled around the room, the seeds of PrivyCycle were planted. This isn’t a theoretical issue. In the United States, the criminalization of abortion in several states has made period-tracking apps dangerous. Data from services like Flo and Clue can be — and has been — subpoenaed. And while popular apps promise privacy, most monetize user data through opaque ad tech and analytics deals. The gap between privacy rhetoric and practice is glaring.1752730952637.png
