According to the latest data from Lookonchain, BitMine has reportedly added another 40,000 ETH worth $82.07 million from FlaconX, a crypto prime brokerage platform for institutions, on the 4th of April.

These moves came as the Crypto Fear and Greed Index stood in the "Extreme Fear" zone.

Charles Schwab operates 38.9 million active brokerage accounts and holds $12.22 trillion in client assets. For years, investors in those accounts could reach Bitcoin and Ethereum through ETFs, crypto-related equities, and futures.

A phased launch beginning in the second quarter closes the gap with direct investments. Schwab Crypto, offered through Charles Schwab Premier Bank, SSB, will let qualifying clients buy and sell Bitcoin and Ethereum directly.

The offer is available in all US states except New York and Louisiana, on a timeline that starts with employees and a small initial cohort before broadening.

Why this matters: Schwab is not introducing crypto to a crypto-native audience. If that model gains traction, the implications reach beyond Schwab to product design, broker competition, and the next layer of retail crypto adoption.

Retail activity is often the clearest gauge of the market’s current mood. 

When we see high retail participation, it points to a risk-on environment, where traders are taking positions, dip buying picks up, and overall conviction remains strong, often signaling a local bottom in a crypto asset. 

Conversely, when retail activity drops, it tends to reflect a risk-off market, where participants are cautious and less willing to chase opportunities. Looking at on-chain data reinforces this point: Bitcoin’s [BTC] “shrimp” inflows (addresses holding less than 1 BTC) have fallen to record lows, highlighting just how subdued retail engagement has become.
From a technical perspective, this underscores the lack of dip-buying momentum from smaller investors. Psychologically, these record-low inflows highlight the low risk appetite and reinforce the fear in the market. Put together, it’s clear why BTC’s $65k as a local bottom still feels a bit too ambitious for now.

However, this isn’t the only divergence in play this cycle. The memecoin space is staying mostly quiet too. The gap between new token launches and active traders is at an all-time high. Take Solana [SOL] as an example: At its mid-2025 peak, it had over 30 million active wallets, and now that number has fallen below 5 million, showing just how much engagement has dried up.

Historically, rotations into memecoins during risk-off periods have helped keep capital moving within the crypto market. Right now, with both low Bitcoin retail inflows and minimal memecoin activity, the market clearly remains cautious and far from a full risk-on environment.

This on-chain observation is based on the RVTS (Realized Value/Transaction Volume) Ratio, which tracks the relationship between market capitalization and the network’s adjusted economic value.

According to Wedson, a rise in this metric’s value could imply a rise in the flagship cryptocurrency’s realized value. At the same time, an increasing RVTS Ratio can also be a signal of a decline in activity or transaction volume on the Bitcoin network.

Highlighting data from Alphractal, the crypto founder shared that the RVTS Ratio just reached its highest level ever, potentially pointing to the lowest network utilization in the history of the premier cryptocurrency.
