Coinbase reports equities outperform crypto amid strong earnings data

The numbers tell a story that crypto maximalists really don’t want to hear. Since the October 2025 market crash, the S&P 500 has climbed 17%, while the broader crypto market has cratered 47.5%.

Coinbase, the largest US-based crypto exchange, is feeling the pain directly. The company posted Q4 2025 revenue of $1.78 billion, a 22% decline year-over-year, as trading volumes dried up alongside the broader crypto downturn.

The great migration of capital

Roughly $2.03 trillion in outflows have drained from the crypto market since October 2025. The total crypto market capitalization now sits at approximately $2.24 trillion as of February 2026, meaning the market has nearly been cut in half.

Circle is believed to have received enforcement notification from a U.S. court. Additionally, the Zama team does not appear to have been notified of the Circle freeze in advance, and the plaintiff may have inaccurately stated the link between the frozen address and the Zama contract to the court.The civil lawsuit was filed against Overnight Finance, with one of the plaintiffs being Patagon Management, an entity known for malicious DAO takeovers and RFV looting protocols. U.S. says it seized about $1 billion in Iranian crypto as pressure campaign expandsThe United States has seized about $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency tied to Iran, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, describing the action as part of a broader campaign to cut off funding channels used by Tehran.
Speaking in an interview on Fox Business, Bessent said U.S. authorities had “grabbed the wallets” and seized cryptocurrency connected to Iran.

He said the effort falls under Operation Economic Fury, an administration initiative aimed at restricting Iran’s access to overseas revenue, banking networks and digital-asset infrastructure.“In addition, Treasury has cracked down on Tehran’s global shadow banking networks; designated networks supplying weapons and other military components to Iran; sanctioned a corrupt Iraqi official who has facilitated the sale of oil along with Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq,” a press release from the Treasury reads.
Bessent said the pressure campaign had contributed to worsening economic conditions in Iran. He added that large numbers of military personnel were not being paid, police officers were failing to report for duty, and inflation had exceeded 200%.He also said Iranian authorities had resorted to food vouchers and internet shutdowns.The Treasury secretary said the U.S. and its partners were also targeting overseas real estate and other assets that he described as proceeds diverted from the Iranian people.
He added that Iranian officials had previously moved hundreds of millions of dollars each month before Treasury intervention.

BTC have steadily reduced their balances over the past year, according to a fresh report from analytics firm CryptoQuant carried by Decrypt. The decline runs alongside slowing accumulation among
"dolphins," addresses holding 100 to 1,000
BTC.
CryptoQuant said the one-year change in whale balances remains negative, a distribution pattern that directly mirrors the 2022 bear market, when year-over-year whale growth first stalled then turned negative.
Back then, Bitcoin slid from a March high of $47,450 to a November low of $15,742, a drop of nearly 67%. The current decline from October's all-time high of $126,080 sits at about 42%, leaving room for further weakness if the parallel holds.

Bearish Signal From Holders
Both whales and dolphins have stalled on a monthly basis, the firm noted, and warned that simultaneous inaction across the two
groups tends to precede sustained price weakness.
Long-term holder supply has reached a record 15.8 million BTC. The firm framed the milestone as bearish rather than bullish, arguing it reflects an absence of fresh buyers rather than conviction from existing holders.
Short-term demand, the firm added, is too thin to absorb selling from older wallets.
Bitcoin was changing hands near $73,536 on Thursday, down 1.7% on the day and close to 5% on the week.
