World Liberty Financial co-founder Zak Folkman is pushing back against allegations that the Trump-backed DeFi project hid a “backdoor” function in its smart contracts. His defense is straightforward: everything was on-chain, visible to anyone who cared to look.
The person doing the looking, and not liking what he found, is Tron founder Justin Sun. Sun filed a federal lawsuit against WLF in California, alleging fraud and breach of contract over what he describes as a hidden blacklisting function embedded in the $WLFI token’s smart contract. The function, Sun claims, was used to freeze approximately $107M in tokens sitting in his wallet.

Sun alleges that WLF’s smart contract for the $WLFI token contains a blacklisting function that gives the project unilateral power to freeze or seize user funds without prior notice. Folkman’s counter-argument leans on the fundamental nature of blockchain technology. Smart contracts are public code. Anyone with a block explorer and basic Solidity literacy can audit what a contract does before committing a single dollar. All functions and unlocks, Folkman says, were visible from the start.
The question isn’t whether the function existed on-chain. It’s whether investors were meaningfully informed about its implications before putting money in.

How the relationship soured

Sun wasn’t some random holder who got caught in a compliance sweep. He invested around $45M in $WLFI tokens and took on an advisory role with the project, with total capital commitments estimated at $75M.
Sun’s wallet was blacklisted in September 2025, freezing the approximately $107M in $WLFI tokens. Sun had been an advisor and major backer, and then suddenly found his tokens frozen.

Hyperliquid leads 24-hour gains as altcoins pace bitcoin
While bitcoin , the largest cryptocurrency, remains below its 200-day simple moving average despite the Clarity Act moving to a Senate vote, alternative cryptocurrencies are rallying.
Hyperliquid's $HYPE leads over 24 hours, gaining 16% to trade near $45. At one point, the price hit nearly $47, the highest since October. The rally comes after yesterday's debut of Bitwise’s Hyperliquid ETF and as crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) said it will become the official treasury deployer for the $USDC stablecoin on Hyperledger Fabric, a modular blockchain framework for developing enterprise-grade applications.

Hyperliquid, a decentralized exchange, has emerged as a go-to venue for trading tokenized and TradFi-linked assets, particularly during weekends when traditional financial markets are closed. The platform’s pre-IPO asset CBRS, which anticipated Thursday's stock-market debut of Cerebras, recorded more than $280 million in trading volume over the past 24 hours, making it the ninth-largest traded asset on the exchange.

Other notable gains are Flare Network's FLR token, up 14%, and Unibase's UB, up 11%.

In traditional markets, gold dropped 2% and Treasury yields rose to 12-month highs while the Dollar Index gained for a fourth straight day.

Asian currencies weakened on Friday as stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data pushed the dollar higher and reinforced market expectations that the Federal Reserve could maintain a hawkish monetary policy stance through 2026. The Indian rupee fell to a fresh record low against the U.S. dollar, while other major Asian currencies also posted weekly losses. The U.S.
Dollar Index gained 0.2% during Asian trading hours, marking its fifth consecutive daily advance and putting it on track for its biggest weekly rise in over two months.
Investors reacted to a series of solid U.S. economic indicators, including April retail sales data, which showed a 0.5% increase, in line with market forecasts. Weekly jobless claims also remained low, signaling continued strength in the U.S. labor market.
Meanwhile, import prices surged 1.9%, driven by rising fuel costs. Recent inflation reports in the United States also came in above expectations, further reducing hopes for Federal Reserve rate cuts this year.
According to CME FedWatch data, the probability of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike in December climbed to nearly 40%, compared to 22% last week.The Japanese yen weakened slightly, with the USD/JPY pair rising 0.1% and heading for a 1.2% weekly gain. The South Korean won also declined, with USD/KRW advancing 0.3% for the day and 2.5% for the week. The Australian dollar dropped 0.5%, while the Singapore dollar remained under pressure as USD/SGD moved higher.Attention also remained on the ongoing Trump-Xi summit in Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping said progress had been made in trade negotiations with U.S.
President Donald Trump, although concerns over Taiwan and broader geopolitical tensions continued to weigh on investor sentiment. Markets showed limited optimism after the first day of talks ended without major trade agreements or policy announcements.
