Bitcoin perps just got a US green light, but one catch could decide everything

Bitcoin perps are finally getting a regulated US route, but leverage limits and liquidity depth remain the real test.
The CFTC approved KalshiEX to list BTCPERP, a cash-settled, no-expiry bitcoin perpetual futures contract.
The same day, staff gave Coinbase a conditional route for US access to certain Deribit derivatives through its FCM structure.
The big question is whether these paths can match offshore liquidity while meeting CFTC limits on leverage, margin, and access.
The CFTC has moved true Bitcoin perpetual futures from an offshore-liquidity debate into a US-regulated test case, with KalshiEX LLC now approved to list BTCPERP and Coinbase Financial Markets receiving separate staff-level relief for access to certain Deribit products.
The Commission approved KalshiEX LLC's BTCPERP contract as a futures contract, allowing the CFTC-registered designated contract market to list a no-expiry bitcoin perpetual tied to the spot price of BTC.
In a separate move the same day, CFTC staff confirmed that certain Deribit digital commodity derivatives described by Coinbase Financial Markets may be treated as foreign futures when routed through Coinbase's registered futures commission merchant structure.
Chairman Mike Selig cast the Kalshi order as delivery on his pledge to onshore crypto asset perpetuals and as a path for one of crypto's most liquid market segments to exist inside the US regulatory framework.
Together, the actions turn the US perpetuals debate from a theoretical onshoring promise into a live market-structure test. One path puts a Bitcoin perpetual directly on a US-regulated exchange. The other gives Coinbase a conditional staff-level route for US clients to reach global crypto derivatives liquidity through its CFM, Coinbase Bermuda, and Deribit affiliates.

Crypto analyst Ali Martinez stated that Cardano (ADA) is testing its most important support level, which it has held for many years, and warned investors about potential downside risks.

According to Martinez’s analysis, Cardano has been trading within a multi-year price channel since 2021. The most critical support point in this structure is at the $0.247 level. The analyst argued that this level has historically served as strong support.

Martinez noted that Cardano’s price is currently trading at $0.232, which he said represents a significant test below the long-term channel support. He specifically stated that a sustained move below $0.247, especially as the monthly close approaches, could alter the market structure and signal the beginning of a deeper valuation process.

According to the analyst, if the long-held channel support is broken, the next strong macro support zones for Cardano are at $0.113 and $0.051. Martinez noted that these levels could be considered high-confidence accumulation zones for long-term spot investors.

According to Everstake, the largest global non-custodial staking infrastructure provider trusted by millions, this part of the network is one thing that deserves serious attention, as it attracts broader participation. In the data shared by the provider, more than 21.75 billion ADA out of the total supply of 37.01 billion ADA is currently staked.

This figure represents nearly 58% of all ADA, which is actively being used to secure the network, offering a safe avenue for more operations from old and new players. A development of this kind suggests a massive amount of participation from the Cardano community and a robust sign of long-term engagement within the ecosystem.

On Thursday, Ethereum’s price briefly dropped below $2000 for the first time since late March. In doing so, the king altcoin effectively erased all its Q2 gains. At the time of writing, it was down 19% from its April peak of nearly $2.5K.

Stellar's native token XLM rallied by 44% this week after the chain was selected by the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) for its tokenization plans.
