Hot inflation data pours cold water on Federal Reserve rate cut hopesU.S. inflation data came in hotter than expected on Wednesday, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates steady at 350-375bps not only at its June 17 meeting, but also likely through the end of the year.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) year-over-year rose 3.8% in April, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists' forecasts had been for a rise of 3.7% following March's 3.3% increase.

On a month-over-month basis, CPI rose 0.6%, above expectations of 0.3% and up from March's 0.2%.

Core CPI, which excludes food and energy costs, rose 0.4% in April versus forecasts of 0.2% and March's 0.3%. Year-over-year core CPI was higher by 2.8% versus forecasts of 2.7% and March's 2.6%.

Under pressure this morning, bitcoin traded at $80,700 following the report, down 1.2% over the past 24 hours.

On-chain analyst ZachXBT described the $LAB token chart as a typical tactic to attract retail investors, following yesterday’s withdrawal of 100 million $LAB tokens worth $514 million from Bitget by 10 anonymous addresses.

ZachXBT argues that the value of the altcoin $LAB was deliberately inflated to attract more investors, likening the situation with $LAB to locking up more than 90% of a low-liquidity memecoin.

$LAB warned that the chart could collapse if token holders actually sold, stating that this was a method of attracting individual investors with an upward trend.

He also alleged that Shawn Liu, whom he identified as the de facto head of operations at Bitget, allowed these fraudulent activities to occur and was complicit in the manipulation of the $LAB token.

Following a 36% gain, one of the largest among major cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, the asset could be preparing for another leg higher.

This time, however, the rally may not rely solely on trader optimism but also on the strong correlation it shares with Bitcoin [BTC], the market’s leading cryptocurrency.

$XRP Momentum Slows Below Key Resistance

The four-hour $XRP/USD chart still reflected a bullish market structure despite recent cooling momentum. $XRP climbed from the $1.38 region toward $1.49 during the latest impulse wave. However, buyers struggled to sustain strength near the upper resistance band.

Price continued trading above the 50, 100, and 200 exponential moving averages. Consequently, medium-term bullish control remained intact. The EMA alignment also reinforced positive trend conditions, with the 20 EMA positioned near $1.4496 and the 200 EMA near $1.4080.

Traders closely monitored the Fibonacci retracement range between $1.448 and $1.428. This area combined the 0.618 retracement level with several moving average supports. Hence, bulls needed to defend this zone to maintain upward momentum.

The $1.475 to $1.490 region remained the immediate barrier. Sellers rejected $XRP twice inside that range during recent sessions. If buyers clear the $1.511 breakout level, analysts expect a stronger expansion toward $1.55 and potentially $1.60.

However, momentum indicators showed early signs of exhaustion. The Directional Movement Index revealed weakening bullish pressure as the positive directional index declined.
